Better than El Gato

I'm a videophile and I archive hard-to-replace VHS movies with the JVC HR-S9900U. I compared this device to ElGato, which I also had at the same time. There's also a good Diamond, but I haven't tried it. Instructions and assembly as expected in Japanese. I used Google Translate through my phone's camera to translate this. After reading a lot online I was able to get great results using OBS Studio and Handbrake to capture, crop, fix to 640x480 and deinterlace. ElGato Video Capture is probably…

Great for capturing lossless video from an analog source

The need to convert analog sources such as old VHS tapes, 8mm tapes, etc. to a digital format is becoming increasingly important. Since many of these tapes contain priceless memories, it is important to be able to reproduce them accurately. With the GV-USB2 recorder, you can record precisely in lossless format with excellent image quality and reliable A/V synchronization. The device itself has a composite input as well as S-Video, both of which are available on analog playback devices. It…

Amazing Device: Cables and Connections

I bought this to digitize some old family VHS videos before the tapes break or my 1989 camera stops working. I first bought a cheap EasyCap for $5. It worked and I converted a few tapes but wasn't very happy with the result, the video was ok but the audio was really annoying which made me look for the best option for it. Then I stumbled across it and after reading some of the reviews here I decided to give it a try. God I'm really glad I did it. Not only is the sound as good as it could be, but

Good for retro PC gaming, bad for HD streaming.

Here are tutorials on how to set up this 'bad boy' to connect retro gaming gear to your computer for streaming. It can be difficult if you are not patient as everything is in Japanese. It's more stable than some of the composite to HDMI converters I've tried, and the video quality was better too. Although I've had the best results with OBS, the video quality wasn't like it would be if you connected your system to a TV. Didn't expect it 100%, but the image quality is still blurry enough not to…

Better than most video capture dongles, dedicated recording chip

I can't get excited about video capture dongles when I know there are better options, a VHS tape on a PC to transfer . But it is one of the best keys to record videos straight from Japan. Working with the device driver is tedious, most documentation and downloads are eventually in Japanese. But google translate is very helpful. Inside is a unique capture chip not used by any other manufacturer. It's actually better than most and seems to have a great comb filter or input filter to get clean…

Stroke of luck! To me it's all Japanese.

The packaging is COMPLETELY in Japanese. Japanese Instruction Manual, Japanese Installation DVD. The children depicted in the black and white instructions for use are Japanese. I'm Mexican and I speak Japanese, no shit, no shit; I might speak a little English but that's all. The device is NOT connected and working. It will NOT work unless you install the drivers on the included DVD. For Installation: The device may or may not be connected to your PC or laptop. Insert CD1. Click on the option on

Good picture, unfortunate buzzer

Wanted to like this product and initially it seemed like a great find. Easy to install (yes it's all in Japanese, but there are other reviewers who detail what needs to be pressed, or google translator can do this too) and easy to set up (a few sticks in, then straight into USB) . The OBS software (which you can record or stream from to switch) sees the device and happily accepts it as an input source. So what's not to love? The recording device developed a hum that was not originally audible…

RETRO GAMING - streaming and recording. 10/10

I use this device for live streaming and recording games on consoles: NES, SNES, Wii, PS2. It should also work with other consoles with a resolution of 480 or lower: N64, Gamecube, Xbox, all Sega and other systems from the 90's. Some similar shape capture devices have problems with the native resolution of 240 or 224 on 8-bit and 16-bit systems. The device is extremely easy to install and works directly with various video recording programs. Much faster and easier compared to cheaper USB cap…

This WORKS! Record retro games. Be bold when installing.

To record my Turbografx, Genesis, Super Nintendo etc. I tried another inexpensive USB recorder and it recorded about 5 seconds per frame (no typo). Most PCI-E capture cards these days don't have RCA inputs. I couldn't find anything under $150 to capture video from an RCA input (composite - yellow for video, red and white for audio) so I took a chance. I just tried it out in OBS Studio and it seems to render every frame of my Turbografx nice and smooth and looks damn good! I was looking for…
