Cool little tool for rough measurements and calibrations.

I use it with AudioTools on IOS. The calibration process was easy following their instructions. It's accurate enough for anything that doesn't require special ($$) hardware. Mainly used for coarse calibration of pink noise sound systems. Accurate for SPL measurements within reason, I still get clipping at high SPL. I tested it on an old Radio Shack meter and it's close enough for everyday use where a few dB difference is acceptable. As a bonus, the TRRS connector has a narrow end so it fits…

A very useful device at an incredible price.

For those of you who want to buy this microphone for recording, it is NOT designed for that. This is a measurement microphone used to analyze the acoustic environment. Will this mic and an inexpensive free mobile app yield the same results as a thousand dollar Earthworks measurement mic and a Smaart laptop based setup? No of course not. But for $22, it does a very respectable job. For less than $50 you get this mic and a copy of AudioTools and you have a very efficient way to do all your basic…

Get this to analyze your room, worth every penny

This little item and my Surface Pro 3 allowed me to use the free room equalizer wizard on the Hometheater Shack website. With this device and software, I was able to create cascading graphs that clearly show where low frequencies were badly affected. It turned out that I had a phasing issue and was able to quickly get back all of my deep bass that I had been missing for a few months. Now I can measure other issues and add room acoustics and get an objective way to measure improvements. There…

Excellent RTA microphone solution

Good small and inexpensive solution for basic RTA tasks. I wanted to be able to test the frequency response of my home speakers, but I didn't want to invest a few hundred bucks in one of Dayton's (or whatever) microphones and a PC audio interface. I thought it was worth it. I use it with my Galaxy S9 running AudioTool. The speaker output allows me to send pink or white noise or music to my desktop amp and measure/record RTA data including SPL, 1/12th octave slopes, room response etc. It's…

A very useful little microphone - if you use it as intended.

I've seen people complaining in reviews about this mic who bought it to record on their mobile devices. That's not what this mic is designed for, and people who rate it poorly due to their own lack of knowledge do a disservice to those who research this mic for what it's designed for. It is a measurement microphone for room acoustic analysis in combination with analysis software. It copes perfectly with this task considering the price. Standard measurement mics (connected to an XLR connection)…

Need a microphone for equalizer/room correction. BUY IT.

First let me say this. This is not an audio mic for recording your voice (although it can be used that way and may sound good). It is intended to be used as a calibrated microphone for audio testing. levels and patching and this is where it SHINES. This is an AMAZING calibrated mic for the price. It contains a serial number to get a custom microphone calibration file. This allows you to use the microphone with various AudioTools for IOS and Android. Replaces much more expensive audio equipment…

Dayton Audio iMM-6 accuracy compared to MiniDSP UMIK-1

I bought this for a car audio project a few years ago and was curious to see how this little guy would pair up with the tried and true MiniDSP UMIK-1 USB microphone. I tested both near-field microphones on a MarkAudio CHR-70.3 horn. I imported the provided calibration curves into REW and set up the mics to both record at the same SPL. I did a few swipes to ensure consistency and was very surprised with the results. In the graphic, red = iMM-6 and blue = UMIK-1. Both microphones worked up to…

AFFORDABLE PROFESSIONAL MICROPHONE FOR HOME AUDIO LOVERS

I chose the DAYTON AUDIO iMM-6 microphone. My favorite hobby of my life is playing around with audio electronics and speakers. I used a similar sized condenser mic (Yamaha YPAO) that came with my Yamaha 5.1 receiver. However, I was never sure about the accuracy of YPAO. It is intended exclusively for the Yamaha receiver and not for self-measurement. But this DAYTON AUDIO iMM-6 microphone is made for just such a purpose. The iMM-6 comes with a calibration file that can be downloaded free of…
