Worked for me. Installed today on a 1988 3GM30F. It felt tight, but everything went well in the end. Got an old workhorse. I didn't realize how bad my starter was until this one showed me how it was supposed to sound all the time. Will be updated if problems arise.

Exactly the same problem as the other type. The nose cone thus broke off on the second engine start. Luckily the aluminum parts didn't get caught in the bell body. (see fig.). They obviously either have an issue with the aluminum casting, or I suspect it's more likely that the magnet they use to knock the gear out is too strong for the aluminum body. This is the second of the same DB Electrical starters to fail with body end break off.

The body cracked after a month. I had to pay a sizable bill for shipping both ways before receiving a replacement. The shipping and brokerage costs far exceeded the acquisition cost of the device. The replacement device failed the same way, with a crack in the case. DB Electric refuses to send me another unit until I return the defective unit. This is again too much for shipping. I've offered to send them photos of the failed unit, but that's not enough. They want the broken block back…
