🚚 Enhanced Truck Tailgate Assist by DEE ZEE (Model DZ43301) Review

The device broke down after two months of regular use. Although it was great until it failed, I would stay away from it. The supplied hardware is very cheap. The ball stud head even caved in under the weight of the trunk lid. The unit was installed EXACTLY as stated in the instructions. I have contacted DeeZee but cannot get them to reply to my email requesting warranty support. Do not buy.

The copper bolt and nut (the one that needs to expand) was twisted and unusable, it's a cheap flimsy plastic rather than a solid piece of metal which is the purpose of this one tool should be and the fact that it is designed for use on a truck! Installed on my 2016 Ram 1500 and after about a year and a half on the truck the coupler that attaches to the ball on the tailgate also failed and snapped. The tailgate bracket is relaxed. The product is easy to install if you follow the instructions but the quality of the product is terrible. I installed it about 2 months ago and initially gave it 5 stars because it was very easy to install and worked for about a month. I've probably opened the tailgate 10 times in the last 2 months and the tailgate assistant is already falling apart. I've been using this for a few weeks and I'm not happy with this feature. The top of the cylinder has already cracked and about every 3 or 4 uses of my tailgate the bottom of the cylinder comes loose from the ball seat and hangs there. I give the product 5 stars for the end result. The instructions, at least for the RAM 1500, leave a lot to be desired. TIP: To avoid major disappointment, do not attempt to install this as soon as you receive it. Instead, set the threading tool to the 3/4" spacing specified in the instructions, then remove the bushing from the screw and apply a few lines of blue threadlocker to the screw. 12/19 update - bought another truck and repurchased this one. They updated this kit. It seems stronger, not that it's necessary, but it's bulkier. I like the old style better. Nevertheless 4 star rating. In my opinion, the old style was simply the best product. Fits great and works great. Installation took about 5 minutes. The trunk release system itself works well. The instructions are fairly well written and have good photos, and there are some helpful videos on YouTube if you search. The problem is that the special tools included in the kit are junk. Fortunately, there are some easy workarounds.
