Works great on my Miata

I have a '99 Miata and the exhaust runs right next to the transmission tunnel which I really love. The material is a bit tricky to cut, I've found electrician's scissors work best. I am very happy with the level of isolation this provides. The only problem is that self-adhesive is just about ok. It's very difficult to get the transmission tunnel perfectly cleaned, so it didn't stick as well as I had hoped. Luckily I bought a can of DEI 010490 Hi Temp Spray Adhesive (which is pretty sticky!)…

Easy installation, the product is very sticky - just do it.

I have used it in my Miata to combat the heat in the transmission tunnel which makes the car footwell very hot. It gets very hot and uncomfortable in the summer, but with this shield the temperatures are much cooler. Easy to install, the product is very sticky - just press well onto a clean surface. 1) Clean the area. 2) Check fit with pad attached. center, depending on where you install) 6) Tap lightly with a rubber mallet to ensure it fits and that there is no air between the product and the…

Feels very strong and the adhesive is VERY strong!

I bought it to insulate a trans tunnel in Mustang. Here's what worked for me. I cleaned and dried the area completely with Dawn. I then measured a roughly rectangular area to cover up so I could cut out a piece of material that I could handle. I then cleaned the area again with acetone which dries instantly and leaves a great sticky surface. I would put the piece in place, use a screwdriver handle or something to slide it into the crevices and crevices, and then move on to the next piece and…

highlighted; Have a clear separation plan

Good combination of insulation layer, durable aluminum coating and adhesive layer It's not easy to get the clear backing to peel off to reveal the adhesive, but that's typical. It *sticks* firmly to the first object it touches. This is ultimately a good thing, but requires careful management. The best thing is to figure out how you're going to attach it before removing the backing. I then made a convertible using tape - one piece parallel to the edge to be stretched and two long pieces of tape…

Very happy with parts

I bought this to replace the factory tunnel seal on my BMW E36 M3. The factory ones are notorious for falling off with age and the bell studs were extremely difficult to get to so I ripped off the factory ones and installed these. To cover the entire tunnel I made three pieces: two halves going from the engine to the back of the car and a smaller piece to cover the top where the top of the bell would go. I made sure to clean the tunnel with mineral spirits, then taped a soft and light sheet of…

Good starting quality

I'll edit this when I heat it up and see how many miles it can handle. As for the product itself, first impressions are very good. I had the engine and transmission from my Miata so I'm hoping to get the job done right. There is a video of a gentleman pasting one of these with the device installed and I can't imagine him sticking it out either. There are many reasons, but I think the main one is that you can't get the tunnel clean enough to ensure proper adhesion. Yes, this product is very…

Excellent goods. Installation requires patience if you want great results.

This is a very high quality product but there are things you need to know. First of all, it's not the same as working with that rubberized sound-absorbing material that you put under the carpet. This uses a much thicker aluminum foil over fiberglass with a very aggressive adhesive. To give the glue the best chance, I started by cleaning my 140,000-mile floor several times with mineral spirits, prepping it with light-colored sticky pads and sandpaper, and then painting it with a fresh can of…
