Authentic Iron Gargoyle Bottle Opener by Design Toscano SP880 Review

so the gold color that comes with it is ugly as sin. But as soon as I soaked it in paint thinner for about an hour, it immediately disappeared and I had a nice iron version. Mounted it on some hardwood I had laying around and used it to cover up a hole in the kitchen from an old phone jack. Looks great!

Gary's Gargoyle on Friday. It's very golden as the reviewers note - no big deal, I did what another reviewer suggested and polished it a little with sandpaper. I also had some bronze spray paint rubbed on, so I applied some of that paint and voila. Looks antique. It mounts to a 4x4 rack with the lid bolted to the deck. And guess what? This is not an original Design Toscanini product. I had one from their website that was forgotten during a move so I ordered it to replace but was disappointed it was a cheap fake. The pictures are from a real website but what you get is a poorly painted piece of gold with what appears to be a marker used to fill in some of the details. Same price on the real Design Toscano website, just buy the original.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. It's incredibly cute. The only issue I had was that it was painted a very light shade of gold. It made him look kind of cheap. As it's cast iron my husband took it outside, stripped the paint off and it looked great! It also had some sharp edges on the back, so we filed them down a bit so they wouldn't scratch the walls. Now he's happily sticking his tongue out in my kitchen.

I installed this cool bottle opener in my shed under the roof. Unfortunately, it started rusting almost immediately. You need to take it off, apply some anti-corrosion paint and paint it with anti-rust paint. Aside from the rusting issue, it looks great and works great for opening bottles and chasing away evil spirits. Recommended with reservations. If you bought it and use it outdoors, be sure to apply a coat or two of anti-rust paint on it before installation.

The bottle opener itself is great but it's not actually brass. It was painted in a fairly sticky yellow-gold paint and had rubbed a few creases with some sort of magic marker to make it look a little less one dimensional (it didn't really work...). Ordered a few days ago, received this morning. I just used it to open my first beer of the day.
