Use this to share my old MacBook Pro 2012 screen on my big Samsung desktop monitor! Works great so far, I only have about 2 weeks, but everything is displayed correctly and clearly. I bought this to replace the "Basic" version of this cable which had failed and wasn't showing up on my Samsung monitor. but I've had it for a few years so maybe it was just about time *shrug*. I needed to connect a second monitor to my laptop and I was already using the only VGA output the laptop has for the first monitor. The only other ports available were USB or mini-display outputs. I bought this cable about 2 months ago and haven't used it until recently so I guess it's my fault for not checking it out straight away. As the title says, I plugged it in and got a greenish image for about 2 seconds and then nothing. I tried a different HDMI cable to make sure it wasn't connected to the TV.
