God this 8 inch diamond stone is awesome! It retains its sharpness and what I like best is that it's 8 inches instead of 6 inches and 3 inches wide instead of 2 inches. I have a lot of leeway when sharpening. The only problem is that this company no longer makes this size. So if you can buy it, hurry up before it's gone. Nile.

Good stone. However, the kit did not come with a non-slip mat. The base is solid - something like fiberglass reinforced plastic. Seems to last a long time. It comes with through holes for attaching to a bench. This stone is 600 grit. I've only used it for edge reprofiling and it removes metal surprisingly quickly. It leaves a nice scalloped edge that I can use to shave my arm hair.

Jags and narrow points can cut between the abrasive (circular black areas), so choose a hard-surfaced stone for such cases. Expect this stone to be the last. Most people will ever use it, it will take decades to wear out. The plastic base is strong enough to be clamped in a vise, the block is large enough to be used to sharpen hand knives. I sometimes use it dry washing with water soap.
