Type of review

I've been using my RT-AC66W for a few months now and although I was thrilled when I bought it I was disappointed. Let's start by saying that many GUI functions do not work. For example, you cannot determine which user is using your bandwidth. You cannot call a user by their normal name. You cannot export the connection list. None of the network tools in the GUI work. And this is just a short list. This router claims it can do all of these things and has menu options, but they don't work, none…

Great inexpensive router for home use.

Note: This review is for AC1750 (white with 3 antennas, cost $140 at the time of purchase) Pretty good router, especially for such a price. Lots of choice, with my 5 bars all over the house, from my basement to my attic. I even get 4 pool bars. Good things: excellent reliability. I bought this router a year ago and haven't had any issues with it despite dealing with a variety of devices (tablets, 3 laptops, desktop, PS Vita(s), 3DS, WiiU, PS3, XB360, smartphones etc.) I have only restarted 4 or

Poor quality, short lived

This router crashes frequently: - All settings crash (had a few times) - Port forwarding is totally unreliable and stops working intermittently, restarting usually fixes it for a short while. Port forwarding works for about 24 hours before failing. At this price, these shortcomings are simply unacceptable and overwhelming. You can't even check these things. Do a google search for "Asus router port forwarding not working" and you'll see I'm not the only one having this problem. Pathetic and…

Excellent router Best in the Computers and Accessories category

Works very well. Very stable router. Have been using it for over a week, never had to reset it. (Previous routers of various brands had to be reset weekly or daily.) Fairly powerful, have at least 3 bars in the house. 2300 sq ft. There are no connection issues. Fast installation. Update December 2015. Already 8 months. The most reliable router ever. In the past I have had many unknown brands, they cut my connection daily and sometimes multiple times a day. We only had to restart it for 8…

ASUS AC1750 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (RT-AC66W) Up until this year I've been using CISCO, LINKSYS products since I can remember, but lately I think BELKIN bought the company has, and most likely aggravated the situation. I didn't know about this until I bought one of their high end routers which basically had major issues, further frustrated by the poor overseas tech support! I've been a big fan of ASUS for a long time as I always choose their CPU boards for my desktops (there are 3 of

Excellent SW/VPN feature set, hardware overheating

This is one of the cheapest routers with a VPN client and it really works. The software feature set is really rich, much better than the Linksys AC/WRT routers. However, it looks like there are some software bugs (and yes, I have the latest image). Problem 1: Usually when someone changes the configuration, the configuration is not active until you reboot the router. Problem 2: The hardware/router keeps overheating, it can't last. Initially I thought the overheating issue might just be related…

Why Asus RT-AC66W and not Apple's Airport Extreme.

I have a Mac setup in my office. And after 23 months without a single problem, my Airport Extreme router just stopped working and I had problems with my iMac, my Retina Mackbook Pro and one of my iPhones, I remembered that I had a working Asus router at home since July . 2011. Talk about reliability and long-term use. Because of this and my Mac hardware issues, I chose the Asus AC1750 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router, RT-AC66W W stands for white, so the color of my Mac hardware matches my…

Great entry-level router with good features

This is a quality router with good performance in a large area with lots of brick walls. I'm getting a 3-bar signal 100 feet from the router through two 5-inch brick walls in a 120-year-old building. The AC protocol makes this a good fit for present and next-gen wireless devices. Good bandwidth - multiple devices were connected for video streaming. without any visible delays. (YMMV, ISP dependent.) Setup was as expected. A good range of features and firmware updates are available on the…

Excellent performance for a large home network

My network includes: 9 IP cameras (7 wireless and 2 wired), 5 PCs (4 wireless), Xbox One and a QNAP NAS (Network Attached Storage) Bay. This router only has 4 ports, so I also use 2 gigabit switches to handle the wired traffic. These are all devices that are constantly connected. I also have 2 phones and 2 tablets that connect frequently. This router does a great job at all of these tasks. I live on a one acre brick ranch. In terms of range, I can see around 115 feet at 100% spin. Not wanting…
