Great for what you pay for!

Got this to track an external outlet (120v) that is dead at my rented house. I've fixed circuit breakers, RCDs, etc. and even asked my landlord for an electrician who couldn't determine the source of the problem. I attached both alligator clips to the Romex coming out of the outlet and was able to use TONE to trace the wire all the way up the wall to the ceiling and then up the ceiling through the drywall to the opposite side of the house. Suitable for phone lines weak for Cat5e Cat6

Please note this is not a Triplet Hound or Tempo. The tone generator is as powerful as the Tempo (I tested it with it), but the probe is not as powerful as the more expensive ones. It's essentially a radio tuned to a wide bandwidth, not an inductive amplifier. I was hoping it would be as good as a more expensive toner/probe with fewer features, but no. Works great, especially when the black wire is connected to ground.

I bought this indicator to help me deal with some phone lines running in front of my house behind some building materials. First I tried connecting the red wire to one wire and the black wire to the other wire of the pair. I seem to have received only a modest signal from the tracer.
