I Beat It Auger Bit

Used to dig holes for 4x4 racks. Had to drill and drill a few holes to make a large one with a 1/2 cordless drill. I worked on this shit because I didn't like the project and wanted to end it. As a member of the builders' union, I'm really impressed that I didn't destroy it. 10/10

Excellent way to feed tree roots

I used a drill to drill holes around a diseased maple to feed it iron supplement at root level. I could have sprayed the supplement onto the lawn, but it was clear that I was applying it where the roots would absorb it more quickly. I know this because I hit the roots on several holes. The trick to using this auger is to use short pulls and quickly remove the auger completely from the hole before it gets stuck in the ground. If it gets blocked, it will sharply twist your hand on the drill.

  • Power & Hand Tools
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other pickaxes

Large Bulb & Plant Drill

This made it much easier and faster to plant a large number of flower bulbs and seedlings. The only reason it's not a 5 is if you have roots or soil that wasn't prepared/dug up beforehand, be careful! Hitting the root can quickly twist the drill in your hand, which can be painful if not secured. I learned to press the drill to my leg. Also, I've found that if I dig and then pull it out, then dig and then pull it out, you'll have less trouble with the drill bit trying to spin out of your hand…
