Use with Fire TV device

Amplifier audio output was intermittent and humming on initial installation (RCA and fiber optic outputs from HDMI decoder). I played around with the Fire TV device's settings, from surround sound to stereo sound, and the buzz was gone - the sound was crisp and clear. When the TV speakers and amp play at the same time, there is a slight delay between them. If you hear a hum, try changing your HDMI device's output settings to disable surround encoding.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Upgradable

technically it works. nothing for music lovers.

My ultimate goal is to convert a standard Chromecast to Chromecast Audio. conceptually, it validates all fields. it offers what all HDMI audio splitters offer. It has the bonus of a USB port for power. Unfortunately, it makes a soft ringing (a sound similar to a phone ringing). Sound beeps for 2 seconds every 30 seconds. during music playback it is low enough not to be noticed. As I want it to be a casting speaker set it doesn't quite fit how I'm going to use it.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!

Exactly what I was looking for

I have a * Sonos soundbar which only accepts optical inputs * an old Sony TV which in some cases only gives optical outputs * a FireTV 4K stick which only outputs HDMI That finally lets me, connect your Fire TV Stick to the soundbar. She works fine. I connected all my HDMI through this unit (via a switch) so the Tivo and Fire TV Stick now benefit from the soundbar. No additional outlets are required as the outlet I used for the Fire TV Stick is now connected to this converter and USB outputโ€ฆ

Quality plus price is amazing

A few years ago I bought a converter for almost three times the price of this device. I needed a different device for my living room and after seeing the reviews for this device I decided to give it a try. It is USB powered, which I personally prefer. If you're using a Fire Stick, this is a must-have. It powers your Fire Stick with the included mini-USB cable. Not only does this eliminate all the extra cables hanging from your TV, but it also lets you split HDMI audio into optical. for yourโ€ฆ

Turn off Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound!

Good deal for an old TV (not smart TV) And I've had trouble getting Dolby 5.1 out of my TV using a Fire Stick connected to the TV and optical out to the stereo was. (Tested all settings on TV for Dolby output; nothing) This extractor enabled my receiver to read true Dolby 5.1. Highly recommended. I reinstalled it as I should have checked. From the fire stick to the television, from the optics to the receiver; only read PCM 48. All connected again through the box; Dolby 5.1 works again. Iโ€ฆ

Not good with Chromecasts

Bought to play Chromecasts on my deck's speakers. As mentioned, when used with a Chromecast, this device produces a faint ringing sound in the speakers every 30 seconds. I tried it with two different generations of Chromecast and got the same result. I also tried them with a new amp I bought that has an HDMI input and I didn't have the same problem so the problem is definitely with this unit. I have an amp and an equalizer. This device was the culprit again. For some reason it acts as a highโ€ฆ

Works perfectly just what I need

This works great for extracting sound from my ROKU to send to my stereo echo pairs. I have a bunch of Stereo Paired Echos that sound fantastic and was trying to figure out how to use them with my ROKU to make it sound a lot better. You connect it to your ROKU (or Fire TV Stick, whatever) via the HDMI input connector, and then connect the HDMI output connector (cable included) to where you would normally connect to your TV. It splits the audio up so you can send it to a stereo amp and speakersโ€ฆ
