Mismatching diameters will cause a jam. Not worth the trouble.

Thread runs out and sticks well, but the diameter is wrong. Twice on the same 200 gram spool, the filament grew about 100mm in diameter to the point where it got stuck in the extruder barrel. It's frustrating to be near the end of a print job only to have the filament itself crash.
