Sharpens well but poor construction

I use this to sharpen my ax and Fiskars hatchet. They have thin blades that fit into a recess that positions them for grinding wheels. My old ax and hatchet (unbranded) are too thick to fit in the recess. After 100 hits back and forth you get a good edge. It's pretty easy once you get used to it. The case is thin plastic and a few tiny rubber feet have already come loose. It doesn't matter much, but it doesn't inspire confidence. Not up to the quality of Fiskars axe, hatchet and scissors, but…

Pros
  • Guard protects hands and fingers when sharpening
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Doesn't work, cheap, arrived unassembled

Bought to sharpen a 10" Fiskars machete with a fairly thick blade. I've used it in every way I can without affecting the blade at all - maybe even darkened it. Also, as other reviews point out, it's very cheaply made and when it arrived the sharpener inside was detached and dangling in the box. "Sharpener" and $40 off, same problem with a bunch of brushes to clear out behind my house.

Pros
  • Ceramic wheels sharpen both sides of blade
Cons
  • Not automatic

Only for very thin blades and doesn't sharpen very well, if at all.

This item is pretty useless, firstly the blade doesn't fit in the slot and the slot is very small. So if you have a thicker ax or sledgehammer, it won't fit. My 4 lb splitter barely fit where I could roll it but it did nothing but jam the blade door (because it's cheap plastic), it didn't sharpen the blade even when I removed the safety door and rolled . The blade still hasn't sharpened. I've also tried a pocket knife, which I give two stars for being slightly sharpened, but still not to the…

Trust me it's sharp, don't hand test it.

It definitely feels cheap when you get it, and you might be able to break it with your big, heavy ax the first time. I bought this sharpener primarily for the ax and Fiskars ax I currently own because, well, Fiskars axe, Fiskars sharpener. Should work well together, right? Perfectly reasonable. My ax is very dull after a year of use without sharpening. Honestly, after the first session with this thing, I didn't think my fingers would be in danger touching the blade to test the sharpness. I made

Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Works great - knife sharpener

Best/easiest knife sharpener I've ever had. Use one at home to sharpen my ax and Freecar knives and one at work for my kitchen knives and everyone loves it. I don't know why this thing isn't rated better than it is. I've seen several comments about not accepting most axes and sledgehammers. First off, it's not even advertised as a hammer sharpener. Second, it holds a Freecar cleaver very well as I've used it several times and it always makes a very sharp edge. The ease of use is phenomenal…

Poorly designed and didn't work.

I don't know what product other people have used or how long they have used it but this product didn't work for me for the first few days. As others have said, it seems cheap. The body is made of thin plastic with rotating grinding discs that you pass the ax blade through. My issues: - Within the first five minutes I had already broken one of the cheap rubber mounts that are supposed to hold the device when you use it. - The wheels don't sharpen well. After several transitions with an ax across

Cheap size! fits Knife Sharpener

Holy Shell! (This is a frozen turd). And that's exactly what you might have bought when you took that crappy piece of Chinese plastic out of the box. It looks like a $2 item at best. Or maybe a child's toy. Or. I do not know. I've bought tools that came in less flimsy packaging than this one. That being said, the little ceramic wheels that are included are just amazing! Why four stars? I have no choice! While I don't want to accidentally sit on the damn thing for fear of breaking it, I have to…
