They really fixed it

I'm a big music lover and headphone modder. I have a pair of Fostex T50RPs that I have modified and tuned about 8 times to get them perfect. I've done so much to the inside of the earbuds and also replaced 4 different earpads. The result of my mods made them amazing. I bought these T60RPs and wondered if they could come close to what I created. You're damn sure. They're in the same league as all the hard work I've put in. There are only very small differences. I like both for different reasons.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast

  • I'm not sure

Well worth it

-- be me -- spend $300 on a pair of headphones -- don't expect the world to explode -- Pikachu's shocked face -- they really are amazing- - songs listen for a long time - don't think - tag totals. Indeed, although to be honest I didn't expect to be able to say that at $300 they are worth it. These are my first planar headphones to be honest, but I really didn't expect to see such a huge improvement over my X2HRs (which I still love). For reference I have JDS El dac 2 and Gishelli Labs Archellโ€ฆ

Disappointing quality control

Really wanted to love these. They wanted to replace my Hifiman HE400i ($169) which sounds amazing for the price but feels a bit cheap. To me the T60RP sounds slightly better than the Hifiman apart from a smaller soundstage. They are definitely the best looking and so sexy that they are worth the extra money. However, after about 10 minutes of listening, the right-hand driver began to buzz below average on all frequencies. My heart has been broken. I tried everything - burned them all weekendโ€ฆ

The best banks I have. UPDATE: Hinges creak.

I had ATH-m50x, ATH-m40x and HE350 on Schiit Stack. I bought and returned HE560s because they weren't worth the price and the sound signature was too thin. I've never heard any other pair of Fostex headphones, so I can't make a comparison to the T50RP with or without the mods. All I can say is that these headphones are the best I've heard, with the possible exception of the HE1000, which I showed off at a trade show. They are so damn thick, rich and precise! The bass is really present, smoothโ€ฆ

Great sound, replaced ear pads, used EQ software to add bass.

I use these headphones with a computer and Sound Blaster G6 USB DAC/Amp. These headphones bring so much clarity to music it's insane. I've struggled to find higher bitrate audio and it really gives you great sound, clarity, responsiveness and position, they're extremely comfortable. With a flat EQ, these headphones have a choppy mid-to-high sound, but the bottom end is light, even with the ear cushions they give you, which adds to that semi-closed environment. I would recommend replacing themโ€ฆ

Hear details you didn't even know existed (with one important caveat).

As they said about these phones, the sound output from these cans is just amazing. I hear details in many of my favorite tracks I've never heard before and it makes me look through entire albums to see what I've been missing all these years. They're incredibly comfortable for long listening sessions (we're talking hours), they don't even cause listening fatigue over time. It's as if Fostex took away all the thrash and heavy sounds, smoothed them out, polished them and left every detailโ€ฆ

The Fostex T60RP are perfect in every way

Well I'll start this review by saying these are the best sounding headphones I've ever heard. And I've tried many headphones. Remember that sound is a very personal thing and what I find amazing can just be good for you. In any case, there are two things about these headphones that I think are better than any other headphones I've tried, and those two things are imaging and treble. The image in these headphones is incredibly accurate. So much clarity and resolution. There is one song that Iโ€ฆ

There's a lot to like

After spending several days intensively with these headphones, I'm happy to give them five stars. First, I can't compare or contrast them to the T-50 MKIII. I've never listened to any of the current Fostex offerings, including modded versions from various stores. I had a set of T-10s in the '90s, but they've long since ended up in the great dustbin of history. So I'll just try to appreciate the T-60 at its true value. Let's start by saying that they are really attractive, at least to me. Iโ€ฆ
