It does not work. Most likely a bad block.

I must have received a defective product because it just doesn't work. The stamp cannot usually be pressed in. Most of the time it just gets stuck. From time to time I managed to drill the punch into the body of the device, but in most cases I was unable to deliver an explosive blow to the metal. After numerous attempts, the device worked, but it was probably 1 out of 30 attempts. And yet the remaining trace of the core was barely a trace. To put it mildly, it was disappointing. I ended up…

Excellent Quality Auto Punch

Compared to an old General Tools automatic die-cutter that I lost, 9mm compares to .45. The handle is thicker and heavier, making it easier to grip. The tip is much thicker with a tighter tension setting that stays where you twist it. My only concern is that the spring is so much stronger than my old one that I'm tempted to use a hammer on it just because my old carpal tunnel hands are getting weak. If I don't lose it, it shall become an "eternal" instrument. For that price I could have bought…

Sturdy auto center punch - much better than my previous one

I mainly use the auto center punch to mark the wood ends when turning on a lathe. I used cheap aluminum that eventually broke. Reading the reviews it seems that all cheaper autocentrators have a tendency to fail. I didn't want to spend money on a Starrett which I know would be great so I ordered this Fowler which is priced between a Starrett and cheap. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived as it's a lot heavier than I expected. It's a decent weight, and the hardened steel tip can be…

Great shot down the middle

This shot is a lot harder than I thought it would be. It's well built and the threaded parts feel sturdy and won't wear out anytime soon. You can buy this with confidence. I will say the punched hole is not as deep as using a hammer and punch, but that's to be expected. "Correction" for impact force doesn't seem to matter much. The notches are definitely different in size/depth, but not by much. See photos. A mine with the lid unscrewed worked best for me. About 4 threads break. Max with the…

Great, bigger than expected

If you're looking for a thin and light automatic hole punch that fits in your pencil case, look elsewhere. Fowler 52-500-290 is described as "heavy duty". and that. Longer than some, large diameter and high weight. He is capable of throwing a pretty powerful punch. Adjust full strength when the rear cap is fully screwed in. This requires some effort. The surprise was how easy it is to adjust the damper. The caseback has a long travel and is suitable for softer metals and other materials on the…

Quality instrument, cheaper than Starrett.

Wanted the comfort of a spring punch but my imports sucked. I turned to Revane and waited to command Starrett. I found this from a reputable brand with good reviews so thought I'd save a few bucks. I don't regret it at all. If I had a job that required me to carry a punch in my pocket I would order a Starrett purely for reputation, but for a home handyman or weekend mechanic the Fowler is more than enough. It is secure, large enough to hold well and shows no visible distortion when used on mild

Pros
  • Great overall performance
