This headset is easy to install and works very well

I didn't know what to expect for such a low price but this headset works really well. Installation was very easy, even with my homemade tools. (Tip: This headset came in a small box and was fully assembled in the correct order, so if you're not sure which part goes where, don't open the box until you're ready to install it.) The bearings are very smooth after a month of heavy use. Very good.

Smooth steering, looks great.

I didn't order this from Revain, but I'm still writing a review here. It was a very cool headset and looked great on my yellow and blue Olympic bike. It was a bit difficult to put on because the instructions that came with it were unclear, mainly because I didn't have the parts that came with the instructions. In it he showed a picture of them going together and it showed 10 different pieces and I only had 9. But it worked out in the end. The bearings provide very smooth steering and theโ€ฆ

It's not worth it. Best in Sport

Feels cheap. If you've been dreaming of a new headset for a long time, treat yourself to a headset with a real sealed bearing. I'm a bike mechanic and I think that's complete bullshit. I've dealt with a lot of cage bearing headsets and I don't like this one at all when it's stuck, doesn't spin smoothly, feels rough and dry and I've filled this thing with grease. I've tried loosening it up a bit and whatever I do there's too much play. Hopefully this thing breaks and proves me wrong, but I haveโ€ฆ

Good replacement for Sport

I needed to replace the front fork on my mountain bike and this required replacing the steering column. The bottom bearing is a press fit and I couldn't remove it from the old fork. This headset fits perfectly with the new fork and comes with a star nut (in case you haven't read my review of the star nut I bought). The instructions provided with this article are a bit confusing as they are written for different applications. My favorite aspect of this headset is that it has captive ballโ€ฆ

Pros

  • Lots

Having a hard time finding a headset for the specific bike I was building I chose the Full Speed Ahead kit as the dimensions we are very close to come, I really need #. The end caps had to be machined to remove a small amount of material from the outside diameter of the end that goes into the frame. This was a very minor inconvenience for me, but once I received the parts from the machine shop they fitted perfectly! And they work great! High quality headset from Full Speed Ahead. Qualityโ€ฆ

good base headset or matches parts

Base headset This is very basic, I liked the big lower bearings and the cup but the upper cup assembly wasn't very good. I didn't like that the wedge was a bit exposed. My nearly 20 year old headset seemed to have a better design and the cup and top cap still looked good, so I used new bearings, cleaned the old cup and cap and reused the top half of the headset. I still give 4 stars because the parts seem to be of decent quality and I needed new lower bearings and a crown ring. These partsโ€ฆ

worked PERFECTLY on my 03 Trek. It was pretty easy for me to install and even without the right special tools, but be aware that without the special tools mentioned (technically 3rd "cup" removal tool, "cup" indenting tool) you can easily make your own with it a long bolt, wide washers and nut, and a tool to fit the bearing race to the fork) if you are not mechanically savvy enough and don't have access to various tools, perhaps seek help or take it to the store. And use fat to make pressingโ€ฆ

Not as many as you think

The model name of this headset gives the impression that this device can withstand bumps, but actually I don't think it's anything more than a simple 1-1 threadless headset / 8 inches; The only exception is that the bottom balls are slightly larger than the top ones. This headset does not seal very well and the split plastic centering cone protrudes slightly above the rest of the upper assembly and is exposed which allows water to get into the unit well with this headset. The bearing surfacesโ€ฆ
