Caution Ham City is good for portable audio and video

Yaesu ft-2980 is a great radio, this is my second radio. However, when I bought this radio it was listed as new and that was a lie! The radio I received was used! Scratches on the bottom and scratches on each side where the mounting bracket used to be, and even dust on the heatsink. As said, the Yaesu FT-2980 is reliable, just be careful who you buy it from.

Pros
  • Constant test results
Cons
  • I really don't like it everything is fine

Not 80w in portable audio and video

The output power of the newly purchased 2980 is 60w. I don't know how they can say it throws out 80 watts. Other than that, this is an amazing radio. One to one corresponds to SWR. The maximum power output of each of these radios is around 60 watts, but it's still a solid radio and I'd recommend it. If you are happy with the lower performance. I still give these radios 4 1/2 stars.

I love this radio! - CB and Radio

Reliable as a tank! The best single band 2m radio at this price! With up to 80W transmission power and broadband reception, this radio is outstanding! I have one in my truck and one at home as a base radio. I recommend purchasing the RT Systems programming software for this radio! It's very easy to program with the software and it's easy to customize the radio settings too! The radio can be programmed via a DTMF microphone, but it's much easier with software!πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸ“‘

A bit of a learning curve, but great radio.

This isn't my first 2m or my first Yaesu, but I've had a hard time programming it to hit nearby repeaters. I finally figured it out and it's now very easy to make changes, add memory channels and manipulate other features. I have a homemade 1/4 wave antenna, even with a roofline, and I can hit repeaters 50-60 miles away. I've been told the transmissions are "rock solid" and "completely silent" and couldn't ask for more. Remember you will need a 12 volt power supply capable of delivering at…

Good radio but bring a disc and USB cable

I got this 2m long last June this year. I have a base and am on the low end and need the extra watts this radio offers. I have tried to program this radio using the buttons and onboard menus with no success. In the end I couldn't resist and ordered a programming disk and cable. I know about the free program CHIRP, but I decided to try the disc. I used an old Yaseu FT-2500M. I don't have a wattmeter, but my power meter read about 8 amps. I have this radio tuned to 80 watts on all the frequencies

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Big and bulky

What a great device!

I received this radio as an entry level radio for my ham radio license and couldn't be happier. It arrived before the programming cable arrived, but I was dying to use it, so I started hand-programming, which turned out to be surprisingly easy. It's also a beast in its design. It's well built, beautifully designed and works admirably. The only gripe I could have if I wanted to fault anything is that the built in speaker is fine for indoor use as a basic radio but not loud enough for mobile use…

Great radio but overheats easily

Hello everyone. So I liked this radio. 85 watts of power had me dialing in repeaters a good 100 miles away with my antenna mounted on the roof of my house about 15 feet in the air. Clarity was excellent. This caused my radio to overheat and burn out while I was running network control on the network. I had a fan on. Buyers just need to know that the radio has no internal cooling fan. Although the radio case is essentially a heat sink, it's not designed for a really long "brief" conversation. It

I love my new 2m YAESU 2980 R

Forests and over lakes. with my small 8 watt portable radio. In the summer he would have worked for me for about a month. I usually heard them, but there was a lot of interference on my side and I couldn't access the Internet. No matter how high I placed the Comet antenna, this old little handheld wouldn't work most of the year. So. I bought this YAESU 2980R 2M radio up to 80W. I set it to 30 watts and they hear me loud and clear. I am so happy to be able to connect to the network with this 2m…
