Encoder not working

I could not get the device to set the frequency or frequency range. The knob sometimes increases the frequency as you turn it clockwise, sometimes it decreases the frequency, and sometimes it simply toggles between multiple frequencies. The bottom row of buttons doesn't work properly either. The quick view assumes 3 frequency bands. Mine wouldn't give the lowest range - the one I was interested in no matter what I did. The device did not fulfill any of the basic functions described in theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • 0

I have done a lot of research on current and previous devices and I can tell you this is a great device that gives me the best bang for my buck. It doesn't do everything, it's not sexy but it does the right thing, it's in the box and appears to be well constructed. That's what I wanted, no frills. I haven't had time to experiment with antennas, which is what I want to do, but if I do I'm sure this tester will work great for whatever I'm looking for. Good stuff.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Long delivery time

An example of poor engineering here

Here is an example of poor engineering. The rotary selector doesn't have an effective debounce circuit, so scrolling through the menus is really annoying. I've seen this complaint from others and I've seen it on more than one device. I even replaced the rotary encoder with a higher quality device and it didn't matter. This is a code issue. The user interface is not great. Simple changes like frequency range or center frequency are unintuitive and the awful instructions are almost unreadableโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Clearly bad product

Very good device, but not perfect.

I needed an analyzer that worked below 1.8MHz, the lower frequency limit of my trusted MFJ-259B, to find the resonant frequency of the new 160m Inverted L with a minimum of trial and error. SA-160 meets all requirements at a reasonable price. Pros: I easily found my antenna resonating 150kHz below the desired frequency. I calculated, adjusted the length of the antenna and the new SWR minimum turned out to be accurate. I like being able to see the SWR curve of the antenna. With a multi-bandโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Sleek design
