It's good to have tension in your life.

Pretty simple mechanism. It replaced a previously purchased unit that has served me well for 6 years and over 70,000 miles. The alternator on my car failed and the belt tension and installation was causing problems. Now, after replacing the alternator and tensioner, everything is back to almost new condition.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Requires socket

May not work on a 2008 Acura TL

I get up at 3am and pull my hair out because the bottom pulley is so crumpled it won't move due to the shape when the bolt is tightened The pulley will not fit the old puck. It looks like a good deal but I will choose OEM next time. I really have no words. That's very disappointing, especially given the positive reviews of the 2008 Acura TL.

Pros
  • Very Good Price
Cons
  • Fits

Short lifespan, need to be replaced in less than three years.

OEM lasted 12 years. I replaced it with this product and it only lasted 2.5 years. The warehouse is coming out. A bit disappointed as I expected it to last a little longer. I ordered a replacement and took the time to exchange it after the return window. When I installed it I found that they sent the wrong size pulley. Now I'm SOL.

Pros
  • Heavy duty construction
Cons
  • Empty

You sent me an incompatible pulley!

Other reviewers stated that they did not receive the idler pulley with their order. When I opened the box I was glad to see I had it, unfortunately it didn't fit properly. The pulley I received was so large that it wouldn't rotate by being held in place by contact with the tensioner housing! To use this tensioner you will need to reuse your old idler pulley. (assuming it still works) or buy a new one from Honda.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Negative result present

Includes both pulleys. BIG savings compared to OEM with same quality.

Awesome! I've saved up hundreds of OEM parts, and the Gates brand isn't a cheap imitation. I've been hearing a belt chirp from a failed bearing for a few months now and this has helped. Despite the picture, as mentioned, this includes both pulleys. area) it was a fairly easy build - maybe 35-40 minutes, from start to finish. Just changed the belt while it was.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Good but not great

Installed on our 2008 Honda Pilot with no problems. You can also install this when installing the toothed belt and water pump, because you still have to remove the V-ribbed belt and are already working in this area. As mentioned by other reviewers, both pulleys are included. To remove/install the bolt you can use something like a broken rod or a torque wrench to get the lever and put a new belt on. This tensioner appears to be of good quality and I haven't had any major problems with Gates…

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • Can't remember
