I spent a lot of time trying to understand it.

Totally useless for my 2009 Mazda 6s. Gates needs to develop a "more universal" tool that will work with all applications. I ended up using zip ties to hold the belt through the gaps in the pulley. Slowly rotate the crankshaft pulley while tensioning the belt. If the cable ties are on top of the pulley, they must be CAREFULLY cut to avoid damaging the belt. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to use this tool as there was no way to screw it onto the pulley.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Slightly dented

WILL NOT WORK WITH MAZDA SKYACTIV 2.0L ENGINES

Purchased to replace the tension belt on a 2013 Mazda 3i Hatchback with Skyactiv 2.0L I4 engine. THAT DOES NOT FIT! The problem is that where it is inserted is too close to the engine block and just doesn't fit there. THIS IS ALSO NOT REQUIRED to complete the job. I was able to just slide the belt onto the pulley without tools. Removing the old belt was done with heavy scissors. The tool itself seems solid enough and could probably work on other vehicles. I returned it for a refund.

  • Very good value for money

  • Small parts

Mazda 3 2005. Installation just got easier!

This little thing really surprised me when I first got it. I honestly wondered how it would ever help me and I honestly kept thinking this thing was useless so it turned out to be really easy to use and literally made fitting the belt onto the pulleys is incredibly easy , the tool does pretty much everything for you, all you have to do is position it and turn the pulley to make it spin. Money, mostly because of all the frustration it will save you

I think I should have read the manual

Okay I received this and then was confused how to use it when it arrived. I probably should have read the instructions better, but since I didn't, I'm confused as to which screw comes with the kit. Grease is not required on my 2008 Mazda-3 (simply place the tool between the belt and pulley and rotate until the belt goes through the pulley). I didn't use this anyway, just used a zip tie to install a ratchet strap, which worked well and would have saved me the expense of this tool. Regardless, if

Worked on a 2009 Mazda 5

This worked on a 2009 Mazda 5 although not as intended. There is a bolt to attach to the crank pulley which is not suitable for my application. However, the tool has a groove that holds it to the nose of the pulley. The belt installed easily the first time, but the AC pulley was one groove off, so I used a screwdriver to guide it gently while turning the crank again. I couldn't use this tool to remove the old strap so I just cut it off. I think it was easier than the screed method because the…
