Excellent kit. I'll buy again in 60-70k

Fits great, water pump tight as it should. No more coolant loss. Gates put together a great kit. Chrysler didn't make a really good car. That job really sucks on a 2.4 in a 2006 Sebring. So about 6 to 10 hours. I'm not joking

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Only available in white

Water pump failed after 10,000 miles

Like others, I was initially impressed by the apparent quality of the kit, but the water pump failed after less than 10,000 miles. I installed it for my daughter on her 2005 PT Cruiser. The cooling system has been flushed. After two years, it overheated while driving. She took it to a mechanic she trusted, who told her that the water pump impeller appeared to have disintegrated.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Some minor issues

Water pump only the last 30,000 km

When I changed the timing belt the mechanic told me to replace the water pump as it is spot on on the Pt Crusier and the car was almost 130,000 km at that point, so we remove the original water pump that was still working and install this new one but after 30,000km the Gates water pump starts leaking so I had to replace it. I'm not happy with the water pump, the rest of the kit still works

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Big and bulky

BAD WATER PUMP on belts, hoses and pulleys

Installed the 'kit' about 3 months ago on my rarely driven 2008 PT Cruiser with 43,000 miles. I decided to switch due to the age of the machine. I'm a mechanic (reduction gear) and professional powertrain engineer with 40 years of experience. Within 1000 miles the DAMN water pump failed due to a shaft seal. dripping antifreeze. The toothed belt was NOT tensioned. Now I'm disassembling the complete front of the engine AGAIN....... Thank you very much. There's nothing like working over 8 hours…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Safety

Not very happy with Gates this time

Bought this kit for our PT Cruiser. We bought another car so I was in no hurry to work on it. I didn't work on it for 5 months until it got warmer. After installing the kit and doing other necessary maintenance, I often started the car (never drove it). He worked great. Once while servicing the air conditioner, I heard an unusual noise while the car was running and it stopped. After spending many hours in the car, I was ready to give up. My husband loves the car and asked me to give it another…

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No power
