Description of Geekworm Raspberry Embedded Compatible Expansion

This Geekworm Embedded Armor Aluminum Alloy Heatsink (P165-A) is only designed for Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 1GB/2GB/4GB/8GB Version, ultra-thin embedded heatsink with ONLY 7mm thickness. User manual, refer to WiKi page search P165. Supports to cooling down the Raspberry Pi 4 board when using the Pi 4 expansion board(do not support PoE board); It is compatible with Raspberry Pi 4 expansion board, for example: X825(ASIN:B07VXF2HJG), X857(ASIN:B085HG7ZLJ),X750(ASIN:B07VPWFK9H) to slove the raspberry pi 4 overheat problem. [Update]We only keep the M2.5*5+4mm, M2.5*5+5mm, M2.5*13+6mm spacers in the P165-A packing list, due to the Raspberry Pi expansion board usually with 12mm or 20mm height, the three spacers combination is enough in application. Raspberry Pi HAT positioning hole is M2.5 internal thread; (this design is convenient to fix), use good quality mute 5v cooling fan, don't worry about the noise of fan. Supports the installation of 25mm fan; Cooling fan can be added when the heat dissipation of a single aluminum heat sink is not enough, so that all Pi 4 heat dissipation problems can be solved.

Minor rework required

As other reviewers noted, the underside of the heatsink, which sits over the USB-C and HDMI ports, touches those components before the heatsink feet touch the board. I was able to cut about .020" of the heatsink around the USB-C and HDMI ports, but it still wasn't enough to get the heatsink support legs in contact with the board, causing the board to warp slightly in that area. Make a 0.050" indentation on the bottom of the heatsink where the USB-C and HDMI ports are located to solve this…

Doesn't fit, won't touch vital chips

Follow instructions for attaching thermal tape to RAM chip only and attaching heatsink which bent RaspberryPi. With or without thermal tape on the RAM chip, the heatsink doesn't make contact with the CPU or the bus controller, the hottest components on the RaspberryPi board that need to be cooled. Also, the supplied power connector on the fan is not compatible with the recommended position for connecting to the board.

Cons
  • Not as good as advertised

Low profile. It could be better.

Installed on a 2GB Pi 4. The heatsink is touching the RAM with the thermal sink installed. The processor does not touch. There is a visible gap and that is worrying. Would have preferred another piece of aluminum or acrylic for the bottom cover. As with other plugs of this type, the hole for Poe plugs is too small for a standard 2x2 socket. If you are using a poet's hat, you have a choice of sanding the plastic part of the head to fit, or using a file or dremel to open up the hole. It was low…

Excellent with modification

Works well after some modifications. The USBc connector on the Raspberry Pi makes contact with the heatsink and causes the Raspberry Pi board to flex when you pull it together. I had to grind away some material from the heatsink where the USB power connector is to make it a better fit. Had to do this on both I bought. Works great after modification.

High Quality Heatsink

High Quality Heatsink for Raspberry Pi 4. I added a small 3.3V fan and used high quality thermal grease instead of the thermal tape that came with it. This might help with possible contact issues, although I couldn't tell if there was a problem with that or not. I ran stress tests for 1 hour and kept both CPU and GPU temperatures in the 45C to 49C range (no overclocking). Under normal load, the temperature stays at 37C.

Cons
  • Weight

The Pi 4 model B mounting holes are larger than the threads on the M2.5x5 racks, which means that I which could not use standard screws to mount the heatsink (P165-B) to Pi 4 Model B when mounted in a case, both in a standard case and in a Cloudlet CASE. I can probably drill holes in the heatsink for larger screws, but haven't bothered to do that yet. For less than $7 it was worth a try.

Cons
  • There are errors

Keeps the Raspberry Pi 4 cool even when the CPU is at full capacity

This heatsink and fan combo keeps the Raspberry Pi cool even when I'm running benchmarks that fully utilize a quad-core processor. Under full load, the CPU temperature is 49 degrees Celsius after 20 minutes of operation. If you use a HAT on the GPIO pins, the heatsink and fan are low enough in profile to attach the HAT without a GPIO extender. Title. Selecting the right size rack to mount on the heatsink to support the HAT requires trial and error. The kit includes stands of different sizes…

P165-B works but needs some work

I have used the P165-B with both the official RPi PoE hat and the Waveshare PoE hat. A 4-pin power connector will not fit unless you shave off the connector housing or drill a hole for the heatsink. Two mounting holes were drilled/screwed in incorrectly. And one or more holes weren't perfectly centered, the spacers have a visible angle and offset, so the boards are probably under mechanical stress. The kit includes a thermal tape suitable for the processor and RAM. Next time I will use thermal…
