Wonderful experiment

I bought this as part of a kit for a 12 year old for Christmas. With the help of adults it was a lot of fun and involved the whole family in a little experiment. The strips can be cut into chunks, leaving more material than you'll ever use unless you're running a lab of 300 students. I also bought a bag of Gymnema silvestre tea leaves, which temporarily block the "sweet" taste buds in the mouth. After everyone tried the test strips, we blocked our sweet receptors and tried different foods. (By…

Fun Test for Kids

This is a really fun test for kids. We really enjoyed it. Now my only complaint and why I didn't give 5 stars is that the description of the test results is terrible. It makes almost no sense. I had to google each of the connections to find out how they are tested and what they are. The test is easy to perform. Put paper in your mouth and see if you can taste it. However, it is more difficult to understand how this relates to what type of tasters. It would be easy to fix this by adding more…

Great kit for demonstrating flavor genetics. Sometimes, due to time constraints, I only use PTC paper in class and lectures. These are the most useful strips when you have time for a little demo. But if you have time to talk a little about the scientific method, plain papers and sodium benzoate are good controls to compare with PTC and thiourea and discuss the difference between "control" and "experimental". In addition, the set is well packaged and well marked. Be careful (!), however, because
