Spools are quite tight

This feeder is really well made. Almost too good. The coils are no longer welded to the ring (an improvement I think). But they are still very close together, making it difficult for the birds to reach the peanuts. So I went out and used two strong bread tapes to gather about four inch coils along the top on either side. This stretches the remaining coils so there is more space between them. Time will tell if the birds get there, but at least they won't be upset when they do.

Sturdy, does what it says on the tin UPDATED

I hesitated between this and the $20 peanut feeder thinking there must be a reason this one was cheaper was. But it's okay - it's durable, holds peanuts. Another reviewer said they had an issue with the coils stretching but that hasn't been my experience so far (2 months of use) but I'll let you know if anything changes. I'm glad I bought this one. UPDATE: Hello. It is now January 2021 and the peanut feeding is still operational. The whole time it was Chicago weather—bitter cold, crazy…

Nice feeder, birds love it almost as much as I do!

I don't know what other people are saying but what I have works great and the birds love it! Finally a peanut feeder that lasts two days before needing to be refilled! I have 2 other peanut feeders but squirrels and birds empty them within an hour and this one only allows you to take one peanut at a time. And for those who say your birds can't figure it out, give them time. The birds at my house figured out how to get peanuts out of the feeder straight away, jays and tits love it! And for those

VERY popular and VERY fun to watch!

Squirrels love this food bowl and our deck has become the center of activity. The older ones know how to spread the peanuts quickly, but it's fun to watch the younger squirrels' learning curve as they do the overhead and sideways gymnastics to get the shells out! You can see how excited they get when they get it and pull out peanut by peanut. The bonus is that once they find a peanut feeder, they don't touch the bird feeders. I love that this makes them work a little for the food. I attached…

torture for my birds. Maybe not!

We were thrilled when one of our blue jays landed on this feeder on the first day of installation. However, this was short-lived. Poor "Bill" tried to pull the nut out for about 10 minutes and was then left with nothing. The bars are too stiff and didn't even let him get one and we even got stuck on the sides and only entered halfway! His friend "Wilma" called him back and he yelled back. It was terrible! We took it off and stuck her peanuts on the fence posts like we used to do. Looks like…

Food is Bad for Squirrels

I did a little research to find out that peanuts can be poisonous to squirrels. April 11, 2018 serious circumstances. The results can even be deadly when peanuts make up a large and consistent part of the diet. Peanuts are a legume, not an actual nut, and when raw they contain a trypsin inhibitor, a substance that stops the pancreas from making trypsin, an enzyme needed for protein absorption in the gut. Although the exact relationship between trypsin inhibitor and malnutrition in rodents is…
