Works as advertised!

Tester works as advertised! I'm replacing old two-pronged outlets with grounded outlets in an old house, and this works great for identifying neutral wires, live wires, and even live wires behind drywall before drilling holes. Sensitivity adjustment was key to meeting my needs. The first tester I bought glowed somewhere near a live wire (6-12 inches) which didn't help much in my application. By reducing the sensitivity of this tester, it could be plugged into a wall outlet to identify the…

Exactly what I was hoping for!

Troubleshooting or circuit analysis with my old (cheap) proximity detector was becoming more and more annoying than productive with all the detector's "false positives". It seemed like every wire I touched was hot. Most of the time I got my multimeter or wiggy (yes I'm that old) to really know what's what. The GT-16's sensitivity setting is just what these simple metal detectors need. A quick adjustment with a thumb wheel to eliminate those false positives and you are on your way to fast and…

The "Greenlee GT-16 Adjustable " sets the standard for everyone else.

Not all voltage testers are the same. I bought several different brands online and sent them all back, they seemed a better way to tell if there was electricity in the house. As soon as I placed the other detectors anywhere near the junction box they would set off an alarm rendering them useless as I already knew the junction box was powered. The goal here was to detect electricity in a single circuit. The "Greenlee GT-16 Adjustable" sets the standard for everyone else. Not only does it detect…

NOT FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

Good idiot wand that can adjust sensitivity. Due to a serious design flaw that others have pointed out and which I ignored (because I thought I wasn't like those idiots, I'm an electrician who takes care of my tools and doesn't forget them), I can't do this article recommend. The on/off switch is on the roller wheel, which is 100% on because you pick up your bag and move / (or if you have it on) when you move. The battery runs out quickly. Then you need it and you need to pull out your gauge…

AWESOME TOOL, the best in electronics

I had a broken wire in my house which put out 4 lights and 6 outlets even though the circuit breaker didn't turn off. Standard troubleshooting practice in this situation is to first check to see if the ground fault breaker has tripped. No, not this scheme. The next step is to look for problems in the switches, outlets, and light boxes closest to the circuit board, particularly at the border between working and non-working outlets. All electrical appliances were fine. I hate the next step…

Too sensitive and not very consistent, DANGER, DO NOT BUY

I liked this thing at first (used it for about a year) but it's so unstable and drains batteries so fast its accuracy is ALWAYS suspect, and unlike Milwaukee or Flir, totally unique/unreliable at mains voltage, even worse at low voltage (less than 50VAC). . Spend more money and get something more reproducible, your life may depend on it. . Too bad, I really wanted this thing to be liked/used. . The TIC tracer I bought in the 80's and used for 10 years still works but it's pretty broken and way…
