Good chuck for the money

I am very new to turning, so I didn't want to spend a fortune for one of the nice chucks, so I went with this one. I have used it to clamp both square and round stock and it works well. The 2 lever tightening system could be better, but it does the job. It did loosen itself during turning, but that only happened once and it could have been my fault for not clamping tight enough. Anyway, if you want a decent chuck for a good price, look into this one.

Pros
  • Good holding power easy to use great value
Cons
  • The Grizzly Industrial G8784 4-Jaw Chuck is quite heavy and may make it cumbersome for some users to add and remove from their equipment

Good price, for an OK chuck.

Wll This is pretty much what I expected. This chuck works but I imagine the more expensive chucks work much better and can achieve a better grip on the work piece. I do not know what problems the other reviewer was experiencing but I have only used this chuck to grip the OD of the work (I imagine ID would work as well). The 1st 1/8" or so is tapered inward and I have found making a short tapered tenon to work the best in OD gripping situations although since I am a beginner and do run into the…

Pros
  • WORKS GREAT
Cons
  • The high price of this chuck may deter those on a budget or hobbyists who do not require such a robust and expensive tool

great chuck for the money

This is a great product, and many people on the woodworking forum I frequent agree. I recommend it, just make sure you know how to use it.

Pros
  • I'm very new to turning and I've only turned two small bowls using this chuck. It seems to work fine.
Cons
  • Does not fit on my 1" head. They have yet to correct the issue.

Surprisingly good chuck.

I got two of these as spares in addition to a couple of higher end chucks I have, since I have a habit of leaving unfinished work sitting around, and I prefer to never re-chuck my work to so I don't get wobble when I re-chuck. I was expecting a cheap tool that worked as well as a cheap tool should, but was quite pleasantly surprised. For a test, I turned a 8" piece of wood in a Wood River chuck. I rotated the wood in the chuck 90 degrees, and got a tiny bit of misalignment, exactly what you'd…

Pros
  • Was not sure I liked it at first. After using it a few times, it is a very nice chuck.
Cons
  • The 1-inch round piece capacity of this chuck may limit the types and sizes of materials it can accommodate, making it less versatile than other models

Solid chuck for my opinion

One of my hobbies is wood turning and I use several chucks and decided to try one of these because of the price. Chuck is solid made and operates well. My only disappointment was the holes on my PSI bowl chuck did not match this chuck. But having other chucks I was able to swap around and I use this chuck for another purpose. For the price this chuck is a good value.

Pros
  • Accessories
Cons
  • The metal construction of this chuck could rust or corrode over time, especially if not properly maintained or stored in humid environments

Great product; timely service from seller

Arrived on time, as projected; was ready to use right out of the box; rods for tightening the chuck are suitably substantial to do all tightening thus far; has undergone heavy usage and still performing well; overall great product - delighted with purchase. Plan to buy another for spare.

Pros
  • Tools & Home Improvement
Cons
  • The weight distribution of this chuck may be uneven, creating balance issues that could cause vibrations or imprecise movements during use

Works great on my review.

This chuck works great. It hold the wood very strongly. I would recommend this chuck to any woodworker. The shipment arrived one week earlier than expected.

Pros
  • Power Tool Parts & Accessories
Cons
  • The large size of this chuck may make it difficult to maneuver and operate in tight spaces or on smaller pieces of equipment
