Took 6 years. - kettle

Bought this kettle 6 years ago. It worked great until it stopped working. I have several Hamilton Beach products (toaster, sandwich maker, coffee maker, air purifier that reduces airborne allergens). You can expect the products to work well for about 3 years, after which they are in debt. This kettle has lasted a surprisingly long time. I feel like I got the best bang for my buck out of all their products in this one. I'll try to fix mine, but first I need to buy a non-standard tri-wing…

Don't Buy This: Coffee, Tea & Espresso

I'm sorry I bought this kettle. I hope it falls apart soon so I can throw it away without hurting my frugal soul. It's huge and chunky, and despite all that bulkiness, there's no room in the base to hide the cord! The cable sticks out like a lazy tail and takes up too much space in the kitchen. When it starts to boil, long before the auto shutoff is triggered, it rumbles, shakes, and spews hot steam and bubbles for several minutes until you think it might overcook or, fortunately…

Bad design, bad waste of money

Unfortunately, this product is cheaply made. The lid doesn't close completely so the boiling water runs out the sides of the lid and not just out the spout, which is extremely dangerous! There's no visual or audible alarm that the water is boiling, so all you have to do is stand and wait (our previous kettle turned blue and had an auto shut-off). The cable is too short to be very functional. The plastic is cheap, and the little piece connecting the lid to the rest broke off when I closed it…

Heavy, clumsy, awkward to pour.

The heating element is in the kettle, so in the water - I don't know how long it will last. The kettle should only stand on the base one way - there is a blind hole in the bottom of the kettle handle that goes through the electrical connector in the base. The base keeps the kettle above the worktop so it doesn't get very hot (kettle heating element). Dosing is painful and difficult to control. Don't expect sufficient accuracy when pouring a small amount of water from a kettle. The kettle heats…

Excellent kettle

We have had this kettle for several years. It holds enough water to fill 4-5 large cups with hot water at a time. The lid opens completely and has a large opening for filling with water. It also has a lever that you lift to open the top. Many kettles have a knob that wears out and the more you use it, the harder it is to open. We drink hot tea all day and use it for two bottles so it's used all the time. It has held up and we have had no problems over the years. We used to have another brand…

100% Plastic: Terrible, unbearable chemical plastic smell

I printed a return label for this Hamilton Beach Kettle. Very disappointed that it is 100% plastic (which was NOT mentioned in the product description). I'm against putting anything hot in plastic. Whether it's cooking/heating/cooking anything in plastic, I avoid it completely. The first batch of water (prior to 1st use) boiled and then turned off as expected. It smelled like chemicals while cooking and lingered on a chemical/plastic smell as it was drained into the sink. I was already…

Worth the price

Not the most stylish, but it works. We tested several more expensive versions from other manufacturers. Two had lids that opened with a button. Both opening mechanisms eventually collapsed. We had a completely stainless Cuisinart kettle. We started smelling this horrible burnt plastic smell while using it. I disassembled the base and found burnt insulation and melted plastic. This is after months (not years) of normal home use. This Hamilton Beach is a replacement for this Cuisinart. It boils…
