Description of Enhanced CableCARD Receiver: Hauppauge WinTV-DCR-2650 Dual Tuner

WinTV-DCR-2650 needs a PC to work. Currently, only a PC with Windows Media Center (Windows 7 or 8) is compatible with the WinTV-DCR-2650. WinTV-DCR-2650 does not have any internal disk storage: it uses your PC for storing recorded TV programs. The nice thing about using your PC for storage is that if you fill up your hard drive with TV programs, you can easily add a new hard drive to your PC. Watch and record premium cable TV on your PC. Simple to install via USB.

The monitor must remain on for proper operation.

UPDATE SEE AT END OF REVIEW > Connected last night. was very impressed with how easy it was. Much more impressed with the picture; HD seemed better with this set-top box than with the cable company's rented set-top box. I haven't had much time to play with it, but the only downside I've noticed is that the box needs to be powered on for the box to work properly. If you want to record a program that airs at 3am, your monitor/television must be on to capture the recording. Since my TV is in my

It doesn't work and there is no customer service!

I've had the device since July 2013 and have been struggling with it the whole time. This is my first Revain review and I have given it enough time and tried to work with the company. Where to start!? It only works partially as advertised. He's not going to pull all the stations -- certainly not the main stations he advertises for. I wouldn't bother with Prime channels to be honest, but it didn't even pull all of my default channels. Customer service is non-existent. When you email or call…

Great product but the cable company is disappointing.

I love this product. That's exactly what I need for my Windows Media Center. This allows me to watch the cable instead of constantly fumbling with the antenna. The only problem is that the cable company has no idea what it is or how to activate it. After following the instructions that came with it and using a Comcast cable card, nothing worked. I would not get channels. I contacted Hauppauge, they were more than helpful but couldn't do anything as it was on the Comcast site. Every time I…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Almost everything is available

I was aware of how easy it is to set up a cable tuner like this to work with Windows Media Center and current versions of Windows. It took some serious web searching to figure out how to do this, and the tech charter, which insisted on sending "help" with the install, was a little clueless. It took him quite a while to realize that we had to move the cable. Signal THROUGH the little adapter box that Charter sent along, and his first tech support guys even tried to tell him that this tuner…

Perfect integration with Win7 Media Ctr!

Very good features for almost perfect integration of computer and television or HTPC. Starting with using a 32-inch 1080p LCD TV as the main computer monitor, this small tuner/recorder integrates computing, TV, and audiovisual presentations. and easy to use, great software guide, good recording/playback - plus excellent other built-in versatility comes with WinMediaCenter. (Once you get past Comcast) I used a Hauppauge HVR-1250 NTSC/ATSC/QAM PCIe internal tuner card (which also was very good…

Operation of two devices for four tuners. These boxes are perfect.

I first bought a Hauppauge WinTV DCR-2650 Dual Tuner Cable TV on March 2nd, 2012 and it was the easiest setup I've come up with in my 35 year old experience with a computer. I used to install various tuner cards and didn't like the process. However, it was exactly as advertised and completed in about 10 minutes, including a call to Comcast. (I received the card from my local (Vermont) Comcast office with no problems.) It's been working great ever since. Well, a few weeks ago I thought four…

Works great without the DVR fee

Dual tuners work great. The only problem was with the cable company. I spent most of the 2-3 hours on the phone while they tried to "turn on" the tuner (repeatedly) so I could watch my digital channels. Being able to record one show while watching another is a great convenience and I don't have to pay for a DVR. Another benefit is that my home network can now watch shows I've recorded on any other PC that has Windows Media Center installed. There was a DRM issue (see some google searches to fix
