Not Ready for Lathe Parts and Accessories

When you buy a cutting tool you expect it to be ready to go with the right edge. no not even close. requires full machining/sharpening. My old blade works better because this thing needs more work to get a good cutting shape.

Still used on aluminum.

Installed this in my tool holder and added a piece of copper wire to straighten it due to the shape of the blade. I did it slowly and it made the perfect cut. Haven't tried it on any other metal yet, but keep it short and move slowly and it should work fine.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Some issues

Works very well for turning tools

This is the best cropping tool I've ever used. It was easy to get right into the mount so the split angles worked perfectly. The chips didn't stick at all. I used the start-stop technique to break up the shavings and they cut through the mild steel like butter, making the surface look almost cut off. Enough for many projects.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Some nuances

Has worked well so far on a variety of metals

I've been using this tool for a few weeks now to cut a variety of metals - mainly stainless steel and brass but also some harder tool steels (A2). . I'm very happy with his work - cuts well, especially with oil, and I hardly had to touch up the edge. Easy to center. I might try cutting a small chipbreaker into the edge to see how it goes as I have plenty of material to work with. Overall much better than my HSS blade.

  • Great design

  • Plenty

Works best with power tools and hand tools

I have a 7x14 mini lathe and have mostly worked with softer metals (brass, bronze, aluminum) so regular high speed steel (HSS) tools worked fine - but recently I had a project where I was shooting a fairly stiff shaft and the HSS just wouldn't cut it. So I decided to try this 8% cobalt steel cut-off wheel. That worked well. Made sure it was properly adjusted and level, used some lube and it cut through the hard steel shaft quickly and cleanly. Made a few cuts and it kept its edge. A good…

Works great now for lathe parts and accessories

Milling cutter needed sharpening, angle was offset just enough not to cut center line, now works great on aluminum bar stock, HHIP 2000-7035 1/8 x 11/16" x 5", 8% cobalt, P3, parallel cut blade, haven't had a chance to try steel yet, if I do I'll come back and edit the review. Works great on anything I've had to disassemble, I've made some brass bushings and steel spacers, I use lots of lube and haven't had to re-sharpen so far, worth the price.

Slight design change needed

Okay I have a 3 in 1 and needed a good cutting tool. It worked great but there is only one thing that makes it better and more stable in the tool holder. The upper edge of the milling cutter is wider than the lower edge, so the lower edge shifts slightly inwards when it is fixed in the tool holder. At some point, depending on the depth of cut, there will be some material friction again because the cutter is not straight. I now suspect that if I had the right tool holder this wouldn't be a…

Definitely worth your money!

I am new to machining and this is my first experience with a parting tool. I was warned to wait until I "wet my feet" before trying to break up. Also, I was told to "stay away from cheap tools until you break some expensive tools". Well, I got my feet wet, but I immediately jumped into a cheaper block. I am VERY SATISFIED with the solution. As with anything else, attitude is the key to breaking up. BUT. If you set it up properly and keep an eye on the feed/speed, this tool is AMAZING! It…
