Good wire with safety: Welding machines

Outstanding all-purpose wire. Cleans well does very well. I'm impressed how it works. Just not impressed by the price.

    Pros
    • The best in its niche
    Cons
    • Slightly broken

    Revainrating 5 out of 5

Much better price than the local

I put this 10lb coil on my other manufacturer's MiG and it worked great, welds are even, not a lot of big spatter and a lot cheaper than tractor delivery! Suitable for any MIG if you don't want to spend money on gas (or if you combine it with gas for amazing looking welds)

    Pros
    • Easy to use
    Cons
    • Nothing here

    Wire quality matters

I used a different brand but I'm also new to welding so when I couldn't control the blisters and spatter from my welds I figured it was a technique. I didn't realize how much of a difference one wire could make. I put it in the welder and it was like night and day. Welds with settings and metals that used to be crap were near perfect. Huge difference for the better, highly recommended even by this newbie.

    Pros
    • Decent performance
    Cons
    • Cord is shorter than others

    Welding Wire: Welders

I use my welder on average about once a month to do minor repairs on garden equipment for my business. I bought my wire from Lowes and all they had to offer was 1lb Lincoln wire. It was a lot more profitable to buy that 10lb roll than to keep buying 1lb rolls. In terms of weld quality, I could not tell any difference between the Hobart and Lincoln brands. I was very happy with the Lincoln and the only reason I switched was because the 10lb spool was out of my reach.

    • Not bad, but...

Buy Hobart Wire for Hobart Welder

The package just arrived. I have a Hobart 187. So I ordered a Hobart wire. Hobarts engineers designed this welder for this wire. So how can you go wrong with that? I'm not going to use cheap, messy wire. This may be cheap at first, but it will cost you downtime and bad welds in the long run. My advice: buy higher quality, proven and more expensive wire. I have no doubt that this reel will work just as well as the Hobart wire reel I am completing.

    Pros
    • All is well!
    Cons
    • Some defects

Minor mess, no fuss. This is a decent wire if you need to let off the gas.

Low spatter for gasless cored wire and will not catch in the drive rollers. Fairly easy to clean but not as good as a standard gas MIG. I can see the puddle and control it pretty well in most positions. I have to choose a slightly different tension and pitch for vertical, but that's pretty typical. I get a good penetration but as always it won't be so much about the wire as it is about your paying attention to the details. I've run this outside on windy days and haven't had much of a problem…
