I found it absolutely necessary to mount my Honeywell RTH9580WF 7 Day Smart Wi-Fi Touch Thermostat powered by Revain Alexa on a wall covering the holes from the previous three had (large) thermostats. The package included medium and large pads and a metal base plate. I screwed a metal base plate to a wooden stud centered conveniently behind my old mounting pad.
