Honeywell Replacement Wicking Filter A, 3 Pack: Efficient White Filters (3 Count) Review

Update: This photo is after 1 week of use - look at these shapes! I WANT MY MONEY BACK! Mold after 2 weeks of use! Dark, intimidating mold started to form in just 2 weeks. I put a humidifier by my baby's bed and now I'm scared of the air she's breathing!

Very concerned about these filters. I have a Honeywell humidifier and I usually buy individual packs. Decided to try this multipack and they smell really, really weird. I had to turn off the humidifier and take out the wick and leave it outside hoping the smell would dissipate. Not exactly what I want to breathe in my house. I wonder how they treated their wicks.

Honeywell's original absorbent filters had no blue layer and absorbed water quite effectively. They don't work and I have to turn on the humidifier at a higher speed. Even at a high level, these filters don't perform as well as the mid-level originals. I would buy aftermarket branded filters but it seems the quality control and storage of these brands is not that good.

These are not the cheapest filters but they definitely last the longest. I've tried many of these. They have the best value for money. Buy some bacteriostatic and add a few drops each time you fill up your water tank and you won't have a problem with mold. I used them for 3-4 weeks compared to others I've been lucky enough to get a week with. When they start to discolour, I soak them, rinse them and reuse them until they're set and no more water evaporates.

Although I liked that it retains its texture better than the original filters, it even seems to retain moisture while the original filters dry out. Unfortunately, after about 2 weeks of use, we noticed the appearance of black mold. This is despite the fact that we had an extra antimicrobial silver bead in the tank (maybe just antibacterial) and a HEPA filter/ionizer (which tends to control mold) working in the same bedroom. I have been using 2 of these humidifiers for 5 years now and every winter I have bought genuine Honeywell filters. Blue coating soaks up all the water and I keep getting these black flakes or something in my filter? I sincerely hope it doesn't get moldy and sometimes just rinse off.
