BLACK VERTICAL LINE

A black vertical line appears when scanning from the flatbed. It's not dust. It's on a tablet. A black vertical line also appears when scanning from the ADF. It's too expensive to fail so easily.

Save Money: Scanner

This scanner has lasted about 1.5 years with very little use. There is now a permanent paper jam error message and no evidence of a paper jam, rendering the scanner unusable. It also takes a long time for the scanner to find computers on the network to scan, and there's also an Eco mode that you can't turn off. I will never buy an HP Scanjet again.

Cons

Don't waste your money

We have had this unit for 1 year and a few days. Immediately after the "1 year" marker, a repeating black bar appears halfway down the page. Now that the warranty has expired we have to pay a technician to come and professionally clean it for us. I would expect that from a $200 scanner, but not from a $700 HP scanner. Very disappointing.

Black bar after 366 days

After a year of slow usage (one scan per month) I decided to start with family photos. After about 100 scans, a black band formed that took up about 1/3 of the scanner. I've tried resetting the firmware, updating (never worked), erasing everything and realizing that HP might orphan me out of warranty. This is a very common issue on the HP forums, appearing a few days to a month after the first year. . Usage doesn't seem to be the driving factor.

Pros
  • Quality Montage

  • I vaguely remember

Great if you don't need WIFI to connect. Too expensive

Nice car, well built. The software package is good. Scans all documents well. The downside and the big downside considering the price of the machine is the lousy WIFI. The connection keeps dropping when there is actually a connection. I can turn on the device and try to scan wirelessly and get an error message. Not connected to my computer, I need to play with the settings to get my computer to recognize the scanner. Time consuming, very frustrating considering my HP Inkjet 8600 connects to the

Definitely the worst scanner I've ever bought. My company bought TWENTY of these scanners so I know what I'm talking about. They are generally rubbish. We had to return SIX scanners out of twenty, and the remaining scanners are hated for their shaky software, illogical menus, slow and noisy hardware, and general fragility. Network connections are broken, even scanning via USB does not give a 100% guarantee. What makes these scanners even worse is HP's TERRIBLE technical support. I'm escorted…

Home office scanner posing as a business scanner

I'm really confused. First, let me tell you why I bought this scanner. I have a Lexmark CX410 and it's great, except that the ADF distorts the pages (often very badly), which the software fix doesn't fully fix: in other words, it distorts in different ways from top to bottom. Additionally, the CX410 doesn't have an 8.5 x 14 long bed scanner for legal documents. With that being said I figured I'd throw my money away and buy a nice $550 dedicated scanner so I settled on the ScanJet Pro 4500 FN1…
