Description of IceCap K1-Nano Protein Skimmer: Optimize Aquarium Filtration with Efficiency

The IceCap K1 Nano is a remarkably compact skimmer that offers a new level of refined filtration for marine aquariums ranging from 10 to 30 gallons. All aspects of the skimmer were implemented to surpass many challenges other skimmers on the market misses out on. Included magnet mount allows for easy placement on surfaces up to 1/2in thick. Master crafted from robust PVC and high-quality acrylic. All components are marine safe and refined in every aspect to provide the latest enhancements in foam fractionation and the highest in quality. An impressively compact footprint makes it the ideal candidate for tight compartment applications. Every aspect of the skimmer disassembles completely for easy service. The pipeless output offers fine-tuning and trouble-free underwater outflow plus quiet operation. Our pipeless design not only saves on space but also allows the outgoing water to exit on the side of the skimmer and below the water surface providing splash-free circulation in the sump. The bioload of an aquarium refers to its ability to process waste in proportion to tank volume. Protein skimmers work best when properly matched with the bioload of the system.

Cheaply made and delivered broken

The skimmer arrived broken as other reviewers have said. The box looked unopened and all parts of the skimmer were plastic, but I had to glue some parts together to make it work. The acrylic extension that the air hose attaches to was broken in the air hose. I had to wiggle the pipe and pull the piece out and then glue it back to the orange airbox. The plastic spatula that regulates the water flow was broken. The square portion of the threaded rod was still attached, but the long rectangular…

Pros
  • The impressively compact size makes it an ideal candidate for working in tight spaces. Each element of the skimmer is completely disassembled for easy maintenance.
Cons
  • Almost never

Broken Debris and Poor Customer Service

I am changing my rating to one star. When I bought the skimmer, I noticed that the inner bubble tower was wobbly. I assumed that was how it should be. Fast forward to last week when I took it apart to clean it and found that one of the tabs holding this item in place was broken. I reported this to Coralvue and we emailed each other which made me jump through hoops just to get a replacement. I glued it back together to make it work, but it shouldn't have broken in the first place and Coralvue…

Every aspect of the skimmer has been implemented to exceed many of the challenges that other skimmers on the market are lacking. The included magnetic mount makes it easy to attach to surfaces up to 1/2 inch thick.

Well it turned out great. Then events happened.

I bought this product because it was one of the few skimmers that fit in the back of a 32.5 Fluval Flex Marine. I was very excited to set everything up and move it around. I had no problem setting up the skimmer and it worked great and productively for about 4 months. then the first incident happened. In the middle of the night my smoke alarms went off and I was greeted by a room full of smoke and the smell of melted plastic. The skimmer (recently cleaned) suddenly opened a little wider than…

The Great Thing

I got the k1 yesterday and put it in my Fluval 13.5 (it fits on the side of the center chamber but you can't use a mounting bracket but it stays in place). This is the #3 skimmer I tried on my nano aquarium and what a difference. Within 5 minutes of turning it on I was scanning well so can't wait to see how well it performs once hacked. As for the sound, that was a big issue from some of the other reviews I read. First let me say that I have never owned a silent skimmer and have had about 7…

Pros
  • tubeless outlet offers fine tuning and hassle-free deflation underwater, as well as quiet operation. Our tubeless design not only saves space, it also allows leaking water to exit the side of the skimmer and below the waterline and circulate in the sump without splashing.
Cons
  • Legacy model
