A warning for the kitchen and dining room

This is a very well designed product, WITH ONE EXCEPTION, and it may be a bug in my production but needs to be fixed. The stamped metal edges on mine weren't finished properly. They were sharp. I took a piece of very fine sandpaper and rubbed the edges of the lid and parts of the coffee container and they are fine now. Pros: Makes great coffee. I bought it because I was looking for stainless steel (my original was aluminum and I don't feel comfortable ingesting even small amounts of aluminum…

Will not rust 100% stainless steel as advertised

I bought this Ilsa Moka 6 cup kettle because with the exception of the brass valve it is advertised as 100% stainless steel (which will not rust) and is made in Italy. After reading reviews of dozens of stainless steel versions of the Moka over the course of a few days, I bought this one - for that reason. I ordered 6 cups (much less than I thought although I knew these are espresso cups and not regular cups; take my warning and buy more than you think this version will only be 1.5-2 Makes cups

. reassure anyone who doubts it will get better with time

I will be reviewing this item 18 months after purchase because I wanted to reassure anyone who doubts that it will get better with time becomes. At first I saw some imperfections on Ilsa and thought about returning it but decided to keep it for myself because it has many things I like (mostly made in Italy and all stainless steel). The biggest issue (that others have mentioned in reviews) was how difficult it was to tighten and as a result it sometimes leaked when heated. Over time this became…

Comparison with Bialetti Moka 3-cup coffee maker

The main difference between Bialetti and Ilsa Moka coffee pots is not the metal, but the coffee/water ratio. The Ilsa holds approx. 195ml of water in the chamber and 22g of coffee in the portafilter (for my degree of grinding and number of beans). Bialetti holds about 145ml of water for the same 22g of coffee. That's a huge difference! Simply put, with a much higher coffee to water ratio, Bialetti produces more flavorful coffee. Here are some other thoughts on Ilsa: Pros: (1) Because it's…

I like this espresso pot

I like this espresso pot. I had an aluminum one for a few months and was never entirely satisfied with it. The coffee was often too weak, and after reducing the amount of water to make a sufficiently strong coffee, the yield was so small that it wasn't worth the effort, especially as it didn't have the rich flavor I was looking for. Coffee but I had to experiment to get what I want. I use a good dark roast, "ground espresso" (store ground) and the result is rich and chocolatey, much more…

  • There's something in there
