An annual tradition in my class

This is the fourth year in a row that I have purchased live caterpillars from Insect Lore. They are such a great gift for kids. I use them in my class with special needs students to study the life cycle. Students enjoy watching the transformation and then releasing butterflies. This is easy as the caterpillars have enough to eat before turning into pupae. First, I never keep a habitat for butterflies because butterflies always secrete a red liquid when born from pupae. I love that this updated…

Only 1 survived in science kits and toys

Bought for my 4 year old who has an obsession with turning caterpillars into butterflies. When we received the set I noticed that 2 caterpillars were noticeably smaller than the other 3. It seems that within 48 hours the 2 smaller caterpillars were eaten by the larger ones (or did they just disappear?). The remaining three seemed to have a very difficult time attaching themselves to the top of the lid to begin the transformation. One eventually "latched" and landed in its pupa, which was then…

Arrived. Alive. New York Winter

RENEWAL; It's the second day and now ALL the caterpillars are MOVING and LIFE. We also noticed this, even though I ordered a set with 10 tracks. They sent us 12. That was really nice since it's the middle of winter and they wanted to make sure at least some of them make it in time. We now have 12 healthy GREAT BigG caterpillars. It's so active there. It's really cool for kids. We love it. I can't wait for 12 beautiful butterflies. Wanted to say THANK YOU to the seller Insect Lore for this…

All caterpillars mysteriously died?!

We made one of these kits last spring and didn't have too many problems so I knew what to expect this time. When my caterpillars arrived, I noticed that the cups are different now. since last year. which will soon turn out (according to my observations as a problem). The caterpillars ate everything and kept getting bigger, just like last year. However, when it came time to climb to the top of the cup and form their "J" shape, did they seem "unhappy"? I saw a difference from last year. This time
