Wow! It's fast! the best in the kitchen and in the dining room

It's finally here - it's been waiting for the sale for a long time. As soon as I took it out of the box and opened the probe to turn it on, I immediately saw how quickly the temperature rises just through the air. It's nice and compact - should store very nicely in my drawers as the food probe folds up. Funny that I put it next to the stationery that was on the kitchen table with the paper clip attached to the back. Hm? It's also magnetic - how cool! I guess I don't need to put it in a box…

Pretty good meat thermometer

Pretty good meat thermometer, easy to use. It comes with a built-in battery and works right out of the box. The thermometer should reach room temperature and then stick into the thickest part of the meat. This is one level higher than analog readers and one level lower than digital oven readers. If you need to recalibrate, you must put the reader on ice and then wait for it to reach room temperature to try again. It is designed to conserve battery power and will turn off after a minute if not…

Great price for a thermocouple thermometer.

Thermocouple thermometers are by far the most accurate, and I tested this thermometer against the $240 four-probe thermocouple system I used in my research. It was consistently within 0.3°F of the more expensive tool, which is good enough for me. Thermocouple sensors are more accurate because they have an accurate algorithm for assigning temperatures, unlike the more common thermistor thermometers that require individual calibration to ensure accuracy. My only comment is that the tip can be…

Ideal! Huge digital display!

Stylish device convinces right away. First, when the probe is opened from its folded position, it turns on the thermometer. The sleek, smooth LED light is HUGE! So how do you turn it off? Simply fold the probe back. Could it have been made easier? Yes, but it wouldn't be that impressive. The folding probe is used for several important reasons: protect the probe from damage, protect other items from being damaged by the probe, disconnect the battery, save money and time, and also save space…

ALWAYS made the best pork tenderloin

I usually look at the meat or use a non-digital thermometer I bought somewhere for around $2. Well, when I used this, I found that I had severely overcooked the pork and that it reached the right temperature much quicker than previously thought. I was preparing a fillet in a fancy butcher and didn't want to ruin it. So I decided to give it a try since it was sitting on the counter. The digital readout read 155 degrees and after the pork sat on the counter for 5-10 minutes it was SO TENDER. We…

Good entry test.: Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

I am anything but a professional chef. I have two smokers and a charcoal grill in my backyard and use them about 4 times a week depending on my schedule and the weather. It was clear to me early on that you really need a good thermometer with a probe. Whether it's measuring the resistance of meat with a probe or determining the temperature. What I like about this dipstick outweighs the cons. It's very small and light, has a small diameter probe (doesn't leave gaping holes in the flesh) and is…

Kitchen utensils and gadgets in a great design

One of those chunky metal-tipped meat thermometers with a large pressure gauge has been sitting in my kitchen drawer for years. Being a vegetarian, I have it once a year on Thanksgiving when we are hosting the family and cooking the turkey. If you're even a little familiar with old-school thermometers, you'll know that their pointed stems are very thick, so a lot of juice will come out when the flesh is punctured, plus the dial moves slowly and is quite erratic/inaccurate at the time…

Fast but higher temperature readings are terribly inaccurate.

I've been playing with this thermometer for several days trying to figure out what's wrong or user error. I seem to have finally come to the conclusion that my thermometer is inherently defective. It seems to work well at room temperature and below. However, any statement given above is highly inaccurate. Anything above about 100F is around this temperature. I tried to compare it with many other thermometers and even just boiled water. To solve this problem, I calibrated the device according to

Almost instantaneous, accurate

I have other fast thermometers that I have compared this one to. One of mine is actually pretty instantaneous, the other takes about the same amount of time, maybe 3-5 seconds to get a full read. The last few degrees require a bit of calculation. But 3-5 seconds is still very fast. Also, the readings it gave matched my other thermometers, so it seems pretty accurate. This thermometer has a really big easy to read display which is really nice. It can also store temperature readings so you can…
