The Good and The Bad

Just received this Mariner 3. Haven't used it yet but blew it up on the back porch and played around with it a bit. Here are my first impressions: Good: 1) The thickness of the material is very good and very strong 2) The stitching is very good and smooth 3) I like the oarlocks but plan to use an electric motor instead is good. It looks like it will work fine. Bad: 1) Floor is a good idea but poorly implemented. Too thick, too heavy and tedious installation. Surprisingly, the instructions don't

Pros
  • Four Boston valves on main body chamber for quick inflation and quick deflation.
Cons
  • Retail Availability

READ MY REVIEW AND SEE THE PHOTOS OF MY MARINER 4

I bought this boat as an upgrade to my Intex Seahwak II. The boat handles much better than the Seahawk II thanks to the inflatable keel. I would like Intex to make a snap bottom for this. The rolled semi-rigid floor is still very shaky and you will not be happy with the flooring. I know I can do wood floors; I will, but I'd rather buy it with the floor already, even if it costs me a little more. Otherwise this little boat is great. I have the docking kit, Minn Kota power center, Minn Kota 30lb…

Pros
  • . A tough stone guard wraps the body, and a versatile nylon grip tape runs across the top of the body.
Cons
  • Negative impression

Couldn't be better for the price. PERIOD

This is my third Mariner 3 in the last 11 years or so. At $163, I don't treat it with the same respect as my other $2,000. The raft that the mice ate anyway. I launched this raft yesterday in the harbor where I put my sailboat. I will use them to play in the harbor, take them to the many waterfront restaurants where there is parking only for your car (San Diego, CA). Which costs $7 each time before tipping the valet! Most boat owners in our marina also have a mud/raft. But their cost exceeds…

Pros
  • Inflatable keel; this leads to improved control and manageability.
Cons
  • Nothing

Perfect fit for my Nissan Rogue SUV, VERY EASY TO GET!

I am 57 year old male from Florida. I pumped it up and slid it sideways into my Nissan Rogue SUV so the front of the boat faced the front of the car. Then I lifted the thin end just a few feet to get onto the hood, then went to the stern of the boat and pushed it all the way up - total time? 30 seconds. Then I looked to the side and saw that the top rail of one of my machines was right inside the paddle holder! When I went to the other side, I placed the other side the same way. I secured it…

Pros
  • Heavy-duty stone guards surround the body and a versatile nylon grip tape runs across the top of the body.
Cons
  • Protection

Works great for fishing and keeps up with my uncle and me.

I've had a boat for a long time and we probably spent 60+ hours on the water and even drifted through the rapids on the Colorado River. I rode over branches, rocks and other things with no problems. Great for fishing and keeping up with my uncle and his canoe. Apart from that, there are some things that should be with it. 1) Get out the motor mount, trolling motor (I have 30 pounds of thrust, works fine) and boat battery. 2) Get a portable electric pump, you still need the included pump to hit…

Pros
  • Inflatable keel; this leads to improved control and manageability.
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model

Update after 2 years.

This was a birthday present for my 13 year old son. We've wanted it for years, but we don't have space in the garage and our condominium community won't let us park it outside. Have been on the water about half a dozen times now and it's holding up great. Set up is quick and easy and the included high capacity hand air pump works great. Don't waste your money on a motorized one. It really won't save you any time. Pulling it out about the third time, we were able to unwrap it, inflate it, and…

Pros
  • Four Boston valves on main body chamber for fast inflation and deflation.
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
