Get a more expensive stringer high performance model.

Side bolt hole doesn't prevent you from drilling off center at all, the plastic moves so much I actually punched right through the door and ruined the door now I have to replace the door which cost me a ton as these doors are 80 years old so I have to cut one to spec. The side rail of the big hole latch is so much larger than the hole that you can easily skip the other side. Also, the drill bit is so long that you're forced to drill OUTSIDE the jig and hope that when you get to it you'll get in

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

It simplified things and basically worked

Here's the deal. Such a device must be strong, rigid and accurate in order to provide a quality result. This is made of plastic. He bends. It gives an approximate location of the holes, but bending means the result will always be different. No two are the same. Ultimately, this means that some of them will allow you to correctly and easily install a latch or doorknob, and others will not. In my case the holes were imprecise and the bolt installation required a lot of work to get the parts to…

Don't know if I've ever written a good review on the product , Usually only when I have a problem with an item, but this item is really amazing. I was able to complete the whole process in a very short time with professional results. Many reviews said there was a "wobble" when drilling the holes - there was no wobble, in fact I could only see that it might wobble if you turned the threaded ring upside down so it wasn't tightened properly - that's me I'm not sure, these statements confuse me as…

If you have a plywood/MDF door you will need a different hole saw.

(updated with solutions) If the hole saws do NOT cut but just rotate and create a small amount of sawdust, you probably have an MDF door. It's like plywood, very durable. You need a CMT 550-025 multifunction hole saw for cutting. Many interior doors only have an MDF frame and its trim around the doorknob. Tap the line above the handle. If the sound changes, gets muffled, then it's probably just delusion. You can probably use an Irwin hole saw to poke a hole here. But it won't be as strong as if

Not impressed with door hardware and locks

Wouldn't buy this again. I threw it away after using it. Hole saws are cheap and don't cut well. A lot of strength for a long time to cut through a paper door. Tip: buy good cutters in the store. I used a 1" Forstner bit and it worked really well. The router bit doesn't match the width of the jig. The router will easily ruin the jig. The problem is the location of the holes for the router template. It's too close to the 1" holes in the door. You have to flip the screws so they don't pop through

Pros
  • Sliding door hardware
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Read this and learn from my experience.

I have never hung a door before and I have hung five flat doors with this kit. After five doors the kit was pretty much ready to throw away, but I got more than it was worth for the money. As with everything else, you get better with every door you hang. Maybe a more professional (and expensive) kit will save you some mistakes, but if you're careful you can hang the door and no one will tell you're inexperienced. I'll go through it piece by piece, trying to explain what mistakes to avoid and…
