You don't need to upload your courses. My previous $400 GPS took an average of half an hour to download a new course and could only download 10 courses to the device at a time. I've used this little gem several times on three different courses. Every time it works perfectly just press the power button and after a few seconds the distance to hole 1 will be displayed on the course you are on.
