Description of 🍒 Premium John Boos Block CHY-R01 Cherry Wood Cutting Board - Reversible Edge Grain, 18" x 12" x 1.5

John Boos Block CHY-R01 Cherry Wood Edge Grain Reversible Cutting Board measures 18 inches long, 12 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick. Made in the USA: Each John Boos Butcher Block and Cutting Board is proudly made in Effingham, Illinois by skilled craftspeople using time honored techniques since 1887. This cutting board is made from sustainably sourced, hand-selected American Cherry Wood. This board is reversible, both sides are flat and can be used as cutting surfaces. Integrated handgrips on each end make lifting, moving and cleaning this classic, versatile board easy for all users. The "R" series cutting boards by John Boos are hearty boards that are "just right" at 1.5 inches thick. They have earned a reputation as a customer favorite in home and commercial kitchens alike. Care: hand wash and dry. Apply John Boos Mystery Oil regularly (more often in dry climates, and when the board is brand new), use John Boos Board Cream to seal the wood surface after applying Mystery Oil. Oil and cream sold separately on Amazon. The Professional Choice: Often imitated, Boos Boards and blocks are the preferred cutting surfaces of top chefs and restaurants around the world. Safe for fine cutlery: Wooden cutting boards are easier on knives than plastic boards (which can dull knives more quickly)

After 2 years. - my new review

My husband gave me this board for Christmas two years ago. I have a few tips for new (or bad) owners.So.YOU are NOT oiling your board enough. When I got this board, I oiled it, then I oiled it again, then again before using it. It will be dry and one light coat of oil put on with a cloth will NOT be sufficient, and you will be one of the people complaining about cracking or warping.I put a lot of oil on and rub it in with my hands, making sure that there is a thick layer. Don't forget the sides…

Pros
  • Item as described. Great value. Fulfillment was excellent. Thanks!
Cons
  • Expensive compared to other cutting boards

Hands Down One of the Best Cutting Boards Out There!

We just purchased two more of the 24 x 18 x 1.5 inch versions for permanent use on our main kitchen counter top on each side of the sink. Prior to this we had one of the 24s and a smaller version in these permanent roles. However, we failed to keep tabs on water getting under the boards from spillover from the sink during clean up and preparation. As a result of over a year's worth of contact with this spillover, both of our original Boos Boards soaked up a lot of the water over time, and began

Pros
  • I have two, nothing else comes close.
Cons
  • Cherry wood can stain easily

Read this before you read the negative reviews

As a 17 year Boos block veteran you need to understand there are key responsibilities for owning this magnificent addition to your kitchen. And my new block is MAGNIFICENT! I’ve owned a very well maintained Boos block and then neglected after years of use. Sadly mine cracked after some time. With this sad experience let me relay to you what I know from being both a good owner and an eeeevil owner:1. You do not need to buy their cream/oil, food grade mineral oil is fine, frankly any cooking oil…

Pros
  • Kitchen Utensils & Gadgets
Cons
  • Too heavy to take on camping trips or picnics

It'll Leave a Mark

A year and a half later this thing is still awesome. The occasional wipe down with the butcher block oil. Not a hint of cracking or warpage. It's still solid as a rock and nicely sized for real cheffing in my home kitchen. Hard to figure I used to use anything else. Worth every penny and more.6-month update: Still awesome. So fast, easy to clean, solid as a rock, and enough space to make lots of veg piles.Solid, heavy, nicely finished board. I've only unwrapped and chopped some veg and some…

Pros
  • Safe for fine cutlery: Wooden cutting boards are easier on knives than plastic boards (which can dull knives more quickly)
Cons
  • Not environmentally friendly

Nice board update for my opinion

Update: I have now had this board about 21-22 months. I use it every day and have had absolutely no problems with it. Season it well and oil it about monthly and it should last a long time. I still recommend the oil and application tool over the paste. My board arrived and I'm in the process of applying the oil and cream treatment pre-use. It is a beautiful board with no gaps or cracks. there is one tiny dent. Applied the first coat of oil and allowing to sit overnight. There have been so many…

Pros
  • High quality. Worth the price. Will last forever.
Cons
  • Prone to warping and cracking

Beautiful well made cutting board

I definitely recommend getting the Mystery Oil and the Board Cream to keep this cutting board looking beautiful. My son (the Chef) was drooling over it. He said Boos is revered in his industry. I was a little concerned when I read the reviews about the board splitting as I have had cutting boards do this before. I am glad I ordered it anyway as the workmanship is flawless and I think as long as I take care to keep the wood from drying out it will last me for years to come (and then I will hand…

Pros
  • This board is reversible, both sides are flat and can be used as cutting surfaces. Integrated handgrips on each end make lifting, moving and cleaning this classic, versatile board easy for all users
Cons
  • Takes up too much space in a cramped kitchen

Such a beautiful cutting board - great gift for my "chef "

I got this several months ago as a gift for my husband. Wanted to keep his interest in cooking! He had complained about all of our small cutting boards. He absolutely loved this one and still does. It is beautiful wood, thick enough to feel really substantial, and looks great on our small island. We got the special oil to care for it, and we oil it often to maintain its beauty in our dry climate and with the frequency of use. It is reversible. I consider it a great buy since I shopped around…

Cons
  • Will show scratches and marks easily

Beautiful, heavy-duty board!

This is quite an impressive piece to add to your kitchen. It's gorgeous. I haven't gotten to use it yet, but opted to have my husband attach rubber feet to the board first as our kitchen is small so being able to put it somewhere upright to dry will not work. We are waiting to use it after it's oiled & waxed.

Pros
  • Care: hand wash and dry. Apply John Boos Mystery Oil regularly (more often in dry climates, and when the board is brand new), use John Boos Board Cream to seal the wood surface after applying Mystery Oil. Oil and cream sold separately on Amazon
Cons
  • May crack under heavy use

Best cutting board I’ve ever used and beautiful too!

My family gifted me this 18x24” Boos cutting board for Mother’s Day this year. After reading many previous reviews, I knew that I would need to oil and wax it before use. We purchased the Boos products designed for this and have done the oil/wax process several times. I can feel and see when it is getting dry in areas and I just go ahead and do the process. The dark walnut color is beautiful and looks great on my counter where it stays. The cutting surface is large and smooth and so nice to…

Pros
  • This was the best purchase!! I am so happy with it
Cons
  • Too small for larger cutting tasks

Sliding cutting board

I thought it would be heavier to avoid moving when prepping food. I would have given craftsmanship a 5 start if it did not slid. I had to install rubber feet on the corners to keep it from moving on the countertop. I still would recommend it over other boards.

Pros
  • Generous size: With a large 18" x 12" cutting surface, this board provides ample space for even the largest of cutting tasks
Cons
  • Too expensive for occasional home cooks

Pros

Cons
  • Limited design options compared to other cutting boards

BEAUTIFUL!: my feedback

I've had my board a few weeks and have used it only for charcuterie. I want to give it some character, but I don't want to cut on it! I'm obsessed with its great looks. Can't say enough good things about it. If you're looking for a block, get a Boos Block!

Pros
  • The smooth surface is easy to clean and resists staining, making it the ideal choice for even the messiest of kitchen tasks
Cons
  • Not ideal for those with limited mobility due to weight
