Very Heavy Nice Maple Cutting board with serious flaw.

This board is HUGE and made of very nice Hard Rock Maple. It is so big I didn't realize I really didn't have a place to put it when I got it in. It wouldn't fit under my cabinets, it wouldn't fit on my counter standing up on it's edge because of the cabinet clearance was only 17.5 inches, so I had to store it on top of the fridge (not ideal). This thing is heavy so I would suggest having a place to put it and not move if it possible. One thing about this board is the first time you get it wet…

Pros
  • The John Boos CHY-R02 Cherry Wood Cutting Board is a durable and long-lasting addition to any kitchen, ensuring that you can use it for years without any damage or wear and tear
Cons
  • May not be as sanitary as other cutting boards due to its porous nature

BEAUTIFUL!: my feedback

I've had my board a few weeks and have used it only for charcuterie. I want to give it some character, but I don't want to cut on it! I'm obsessed with its great looks. Can't say enough good things about it. If you're looking for a block, get a Boos Block!

Pros
  • The reversible design of this board gives you the option to use it on both sides, providing double the use and preventing cross-contamination of different types of food
Cons
  • Slight size variations may occur due to its handcrafted nature

Walnut wood grain is beautiful.

This is our third Boos Block, all for different purposes. We use the round walnut cutting board for the Lazy Susan on our dining table. It looks good, cleans nicely, and allows us to do prep in the kitchen and then carry it into the dining room. The walnut wood grain and color is gorgeous.

Pros
  • John Boos Block CHY-R02 Maple Wood Edge Grain Reversible Cutting Board measures 24 inches long, 18 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick
Cons
  • May discolor over time if not adequately maintained

So Far, So Good! for my opinion

So far so good! I decided to go with this board despite some negative reviews and so far, I’m happy with it! It arrived very dry like I anticipated. So, i oiled it pretty generously and it soaked right up. Tomorrow, I’ll apply the cream. I haven’t actually cut on it yet. But, I’ll update this review accordingly.I’m a pretty firm believer that unless it’s defective in some way (in which case - return/exchange it) and as long as it’s cared for well, following Boos recommendations - this will be…

Pros
  • Constructed with edge grain technology, this board is designed to withstand heavy use and sharp knives, making it an ideal choice for both professional chefs and home cooks
Cons
  • Not recommended for cutting hard foods like frozen products or crusty bread

"used - like new " misleading but redeemable

when I was shopping for these, there was one "used - like new" available, at such a good discount I couldn't turn it down. when an item is sold like this, sometimes means "opened/unwrapped but not actually used". but in my case it appeared somebody had ran it through the dishwasher! the grain was raised and it was rough all over. It looked pretty bad, it did not look "like new" and I'm honestly surprised it passed inspection and was put back on the shelves. however, these are solid wood. so it…

Pros
  • I have two, nothing else comes close.
Cons
  • Can transfer odor and stains from one type of food to another if not adequately cleaned

Only caution with this is that you need to buy the oil and cream and clean it and prep it before you use it for the first time. After that, the colors of the wood deepen and you have a great protective layer soaked into the wood. I would recommend doing the oil and cream process once every couple of months if you use it a lot. Maybe every 3-6 months if you only cut on it occasionally. If you take of this it will last you 10-20 years no problem. Remember, NO DISHWASHER! Just wipe down with a wet

Pros
  • High quality. Worth the price. Will last forever.
Cons
  • Not dishwasher safe, which makes cleaning a bit tedious

I've been using mine for about 30 days now. I took the time to season and seal it with mineral oil and block conditioner. It's been so nice to have a quality board like this in my kitchen-- HOWEVERThe top side of mine has a bulge in one small spot. It's subtle. But, when you flip it to that side, the board can move, even rotate unexpectedly because of it. This will require me to re-finish it with sand paper in the futureLesson to learn is that you should buy such bulky, premium items locally…

Pros
  • You couldn't get a heavier piece of wood if you wanted to! Very Nice!
Cons
  • Can easily get scratched and end up looking worn out

High Maintenance - Don’t let the board dry out EVER!

I love my board however, it arrived dry and super thirsty like everyone else’s. I oiled it (all sides/corners/finger nooks) with Boos Mystery Oil for 6 days straight using a barbecue basting brush until it wouldn’t absorb any more. Then I applied the Butcher Block Cream and let it sit one more night. After using it I use coarse salt and a tiny amount of water to scrub away any stains and wipe clean. Then I oil it and seal with cream again. Per a Rachel Ray YouTube video she also advised to…

Pros
  • Made in the USA: Each John Boos Butcher Block and Cutting Board is proudly made in Effingham, Illinois by skilled craftspeople using time honored techniques since 1887
Cons
  • May require sanding over time to smooth out scratches and discoloration

My new best friend in the kitchen

I bought this board to replace the flimsy plastic cutting boards which were dulling my expensive knives. It's the second-best purchase I've ever made for my kitchen, after my knives. It lives on my counter and gets used every day. The size is a few inches less than my countertop depth, and the generous width means I can cut a few different ingredients and keep them in piles on the board. I've been cooking with more fresh vegetables because it's a joy to prepare them with such a professional…

Pros
  • Kitchen & Dining
Cons
  • The board can become slippery when wet, which can be dangerous

Boo-tiful!: my feedback

I bought two and they are hearty, sturdy and so beautiful! Love them. I did use a gel mat under so it doesn’t slide around. Love it!

Pros
  • Safe for fine cutlery: Wooden cutting boards are easier on knives than plastic boards (which can dull knives more quickly)
Cons
  • Does not include cut-out handles, making it challenging to carry around

BooS is the best good for me

I put some feet on this and used it over a small round counter-sink, and it really transformed our space. We can use it on the counter, or slot it over the sink when the sink isn't needed. It's high-quality, of course.

Pros
  • This was the best purchase!! I am so happy with it
Cons
  • Relatively expensive compared to other cutting boards on the market
