My gasket on our Kamado Joe Classic was loose and not sticking. After reading some reviews I bought this pad. I watched a video made by Kamado Joe on how to change the seal. Preparation took longer than installation. Remove the old gasket with a spatula. Sand the glue lightly and clean the surface. Slowly glue the new gasket inch by inch and cut off the end with pliers. I just had to replace the bottom of my kamado. Once the top pad falls off, I use the rest of the pad.

First use Goo Gone and a plastic disc scraper to remove the old felt and glue. That takes five minutes. Then wash the surfaces with warm soapy water. Finally, after drying the two surfaces, peel off a foot of the new felt adhesive and press it inch by inch against the top and bottom edges of your Kamado grill. I recently bought a smoker and started a steep learning curve and it took me a while to figure out the process of smoking myself. I used this on a custom smoker I made a while back. It is believed that there are many thermal cycles and this material is really important! It's strong enough to close the gap/airspace, but "compliant" enough to keep the lid very close to where it should be. Some gaskets are too thick or hard, preventing the lid from closing properly. I installed this gasket exactly as I was told. Scraped off old upholstery, cleaned surface, waited to dry, then put on the new mesh upholstery and I knew immediately that it wouldn't last. The adhesive strip is as wide as the spacer but the problem is that it keeps pushing down when the grill lid is closed and then lifts up again once the grill is opened. In principle, the adhesive does not cover the entire surface that touches the ceramic when the grate is closed. So what happens when you lift
