This product doesn't deserve the one star I gave it - had to do this to leave a review. This was NOT a real Kaytee lava ledge. It was a cheap, terrible, poor-quality fake. The product was packaged incorrectly - the tabs were not sealed with plastic, the back of the box looked like it was on a home copier, the packaging was not stapled tightly. I use this on my chinchillas and they love it. It provides them with a great chew and is usually digested fairly quickly. This is the toy we have to replace the most because they chew on it so much! It's also a great platform for them to jump on. So if you have something big in the cage for your pets that they might need help with, or you just want them to have more room to sit/climb, this is great. One of our rats loves to chew so I bought this to satisfy her. Rats always gnaw on the ledge and also use it for climbing and resting. My boys seem to lose interest in chewing it when half the rock is gone, but they still use it for climbing. As much as I love that these protrusions add some color to the cage, and the product says the color is safe, I really wish the color wasn't dyed. I read all the reviews about it before buying it. I really didn't feel like buying them as I knew a lot of them were broken and I wasn't sure how safe the coloring was, but then I noticed my rat's claws were getting a bit longer so I thought, it would be best if they have a lava sim in the cage. I have bought more of these lava strips and they are good for chewing to wear teeth. My male chinchilla doesn't really like to chew, so this takes a while, but a younger female will destroy them in just a week or two. The main issue I see with them is the obvious workmanship of how the tabs attach to the screw and mounting assembly.
