No, it won't stop the most ambitious thief, but it does what it's supposed to do - and deters the average would-be laptop thief. For some reason, however, the alignment marker for the combo seems to be on the opposite side of what you'd expect, which can make unlocking a bit fiddly. It's easy enough to set up your own combination. . . if you read the instructions carefully. A little harder if you don't. In general I am satisfied with the purchase.

The Targus lock was a real problem locking/unlocking. This lock is very easy to use (may depend on laptop brand/model I think). It's really just a deterrent for a thief to smash and grab it as you're relying on chance to keep it from being stolen. I've never tried throwing one away but don't think it will take long - again, it's a deterrent to those just passing by.

I bought this lock for our laptop. It worked once, but never again. So lucky it wasn't connected to a laptop. I couldn't unlock. I tried YouTube hack method for this block, it didn't work either. This is an older model. I spoke to Kensington Tech Support and they told me that this model is outdated and not as secure. I should get a newer model. Kensington offers very helpful technical support.
