These plugs were purchased because I lost the one that came with the tape. I love that you can tighten these ends of the rods so there is less chance of losing them. The only downside I have is that the end cap is big enough to cover the hole and doesn't overlap at all. Because of this you can see the part of the band where it starts at an angle to the bar. These handlebar ends are designed to cover the handlebar holes. They can be inserted into any handlebar hole (1) and then tightened with the hex key provided with each order. Don't overtighten. I would use steel wool in each bar hole or sandpaper before installing the bar caps. Run a clean rag through each cleaned handlebar before installing new caps. This is because the caps on each end grip better once tightened. :€)

The nut embedded in the plastic was torn off because I had one mounted on my bike. I couldn't tighten them. I solved the problem by putting a washer between the plastic and the nut and it's fine, it still holds up after multiple rides for 30+ miles cross country. Looks good. I read the reviews and was a bit skeptical about some of the $9 mounting anchors, especially since others mentioned that they fell off or broke during installation.
