I'm not sure if my handrail posts are mismatched or a defect with this product but they didn't really fit. Base. I looked at them and assumed they were 4x4's at the base (actually 3.5" x 3.5"). As it turned out, they were 3.75" x 3.75" and are just SLIGHTLY too big for the square brackets. I will say that the braces are made out of some pretty strong material (maybe nylon, not just plastic) so I was able to use a dremel to cut some material off the inside of the braces and they worked great…

I bought three of these. two for the bottom of the stairs where I only had two supports and one at the top where I wanted to use the wall for one side of the gate installation and the jamb was on the other side. The hardware is good enough. . The screws are standard, but (my fault here) if you don't use the correct screw bit when drilling, just rip them off. Also, one of the wooden brackets in the kit was extremely difficult to drill and screw into. It was a very hard wood. The thing itself…

If you absolutely have to install the gate on a stair/handrail then consider this product. The photos do not show what is included in the package (see photos). You will receive TWO square clips and 1 set of adapters in case you need to attach the top/bottom to a rounded vertical support. If you have a rounded vertical support at the top and bottom you may need to buy 2 of these. I suggest buying 1 first and see if you need the second.
