I don't understand the bad reviews. I bought this device half a year ago

I don't understand the bad reviews. I bought this device six months ago. Easy to install and operate. I didn't get an alarm but notifications when our internet connection was lost. Then another notification when it comes back to let me know the monitor is working again. Also, the app works great.

Pros
  • One year trial period
Cons
  • A little wrinkled

Terrible app and product support

I'm very computer savvy and when I installed this product I got registration errors, there was no intuitive way to start over. The product documentation was terrible. I am returning this device. Not to mention I emailed their support. Still no reply, a week later I called product support. They said they would call back. still no call.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Almost never

I tested this device the day it arrived and .

I tested this unit on the day it was shipped and it failed. Specifically, I added it to my wifi (and could see it in the Kidde app on my phone), pressed the test button on the device, waited for the voice prompt to activate the fire alarm, then held the test button on the smoke detector for 5 cycles. This device could not hear the alarm even though the smoke detector was in the same room. I have already returned the device and received a full refund.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Socket required

It hung on the screen with a message like "Connected! Connection attempt

I could not complete the connection process. I tried to connect to my Android phone. The app on my phone switched to kidde's network, connect it to my home network, switch back to my home network and try to reach it there. My router confirmed the device was connected, but the app couldn't complete the process. by saying something like "Connected! Attempting to connect.โ€ I've tried multiple times to no avail. Your support team still hasn't responded to my email after 2 weeks. Instead, Iโ€ฆ

Good alternative to Nest devices

I bought this to monitor my smoke detectors while we were away without the expense of using devices like Nest. Our house doesn't have a built-in alarm system, so I'll create a multi-device wireless one; This is one of them. Set up was a little clunky and it works fine. I've been using it for a while and it seems to work as advertised. One feature I like is that when I get a notification we can message more than one person to send notifications. As I said, the setup was a bit clunky and Iโ€ฆ

The alarm works fine and never sounds

Have had this unit for over a year. I have at least one false alarm per month, maybe more. Usually at 3:00 am I get a text message on my cell phone that a carbon monoxide alarm has been detected. The alarm clock works perfectly, never rings. I chose to ignore the fire alarm text when I was away two weeks ago and it turned out to have really worked (they need to be vacuumed about once a year because they cause dust build up) and my poor dog must listen to the explosion alarm for 4 hours. I reset

Pros
  • Excellent performance
Cons
  • Having problems

Absolutely impossible to customize

The concept is great but the device is completely useless. I tried following the installation instructions with two different Android phones and an iPhone. Poor included instructions and weak web resources didn't quite match the steps the device went through. I got to the point where the monitor said it was monitoring, but the RemoteLync app never recognized that there was a device in that location, and testing with a smoke detector never generated any alerts. Yes, I opened port 8080 on myโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Very expensive

The most important thing to know about this product is never to buy it.

It tried to connect for three days. It found my wireless router and said it was "connected" but then told me it was trying to connect. He told me exactly what the instructions said but didn't connect. It has been trying to "find" the service or devices for over 24 hours. I've tried from multiple devices with ALWAYS the same response. The instructions say you should call Kidde so I'm dd. There I got a lot of "huh?", some "so what are you saying?" and a few "really?" He then told me to talk toโ€ฆ

  • Almost everything ok
