Type of review

I love long, serrated and sharp knives. I bought it based on the reviews but when I received it I realized it was for specific purposes only. I don't eat bread so I won't use it for slicing bread but it does fine. I found it GREAT for slicing through thick rinds of melons. It easily penetrates melon, honeydew and watermelon rinds. I also use it for butchering raw fish and beef. It's not your everyday kitchen knife, but it can do a lot more than just bread. Ideal for heavy cutting work.

Blade is good, workmanship not so much.

I have an old version of this knife that I have used for years to cut everything from meat to vegetables to bread and after years of hard use the blade has finally come off the handle and I can't repair . So I took a look and bought this modern version and after a week of use the blade fell out of the hilt. It still works when you put it back in, but having to poke the knife blade into the handle every once in a while while cooking gets annoying because it just starts to lose control with use…

Not a Ginsu knife but similar

I have a Ginsu knife from the mid 1970's that is finally starting to not cut ripe tomatoes as cleanly as I would like so I looked for it a replacement. It's not like this. The teeth are larger and further apart, and the blade has a lot of cutting resistance due to the rough sharpening of the edge. This rudeness makes him grab and cut, but at the same time he drags and pushes food. When slicing a ripe tomato, the blade will grab and cut through the skin, but when you cut it there is a lot of…

Not very sharp. best knife sharpener

We bought this to cut bagels and bread, which is typical for serrated knives, but it's actually too boring to do well. It may say "Homemade Bread Knife," but it's not nearly as sharp as some of the older, never-sharpening knives we were hoping to replace. We shall now return to those for bread. It's our fault for not responding sooner. We were very disappointed not to try it more extensively during the return period which we missed by a few days. Would definitely return but we were out of town…

Good knife, but with burrs!

As other reviewers have pointed out, this knife was not finished properly as there was a slight burr on the sharpened edge. Although the knife is actually dangerously sharp, those little burrs tend to grab and tear whatever I'm cutting as I pull the blade through. Cutting tomatoes was a mess. To fix this I took wet 1000 grit sandpaper and very carefully sanded down the burrs (which appear to be on the smooth side of the blade, not the side with the small concave circular cuts). Now - with the…

My wife's favorite knife

We've had one of these for 30 years and it was amazing. It ended up breaking so we bought a new one. I didn't remember the lifetime warranty lol. My wife was very upset about this so I found this at Revain and was shocked to find it was still available. When it arrived I just smuggled it into the kitchen and it took her a couple of hours to figure that out, wait a minute didn't we throw it away? lol! Anyway, it's exactly the same as the original and works great. This knife makes them happier…

  • Finally bought it
Cons
  • A few little things

I was trying to replace a Forever Sharp I've had since 2004. It looked the same and came in the same packaging. When I first used it I hated it. In fact, the Forever Sharp was sharp enough to cut potatoes. The handle is wider than the blade; I think that's for safety, so you don't pinch your index finger. So I couldn't finish cutting the potatoes. My husband says it's ok so I gave it 3 stars. For me it's 1 compared to my Forever Sharp. It will most likely cut a French bread with teeth. I had to

Best cut, one mistake

The 2001 blade I have 3 of is better than any knife I've ever owned for cutting. You can easily slice and wafer-thin tomatoes, onions, and blocks of cheese if you like. The blade itself seems almost indestructible as I used the old one to cut things like wood and cans. The only caveat I have for people is that the handle will loosen the blade's grip over time if the knife is used a lot to cut difficult to cut items like very hard cheese etc out of the handle. When this happened I tried the best
